My mom was told she had gbc in Nov 2008. Since she has had 3 surgeries, the last on Oct 1st.  Her doctors are wanting her to take a cemo pill called Xeloda.  Has anyone taken this pill for treatment and if so how did it go?  Please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Tennessee daughter --- Yes, I have taken Xeloda for gallbladder cancer.  It is a very common drug to use for this type of cancer.  Will this be her first chemo?  Is she also getting radiation?  Has she received any IV chemo yet?  What stage of GBC does she have?  Sorry, so many questions!  Anyway, Xeloda is a very good medicine.  It's generally pretty well tolerated.  There is usually no hair loss, for one thing.  My only problem was a sort of low uncomfortable stomach ache and that didn't start until after I was on Xeloda for a while.  Definitely your mother should take Xeloda or some sort of appropriate chemo, and she should be seen at a large major cancer center.

Please do write again.

I have taken Xeloda for my GBC and it worked well.

My CA 19-9 went from 1345 to 133 in 6mos.  At the

time I received  Oxaliplatin.  I did after a while have a

reaction to the Oxaliplatin.  That was in 2004.  I am now

on Gemzar and Tarceva which is holding the GBC at bay.

With my CA19-9 decreasing each month.

Why are you on tarceva and gemzar instead of the Xeloda?  I am trying to find all the options I can for my mom.

Thanks,

Sarah
