lack of appetite

In August I was diagnosed with NSCLC. It is also in my bones, 2 lymph nodes and I have lesions on my brain.  I have already had full brain radiation and also radiation to the tops of my femurs. I'm getting an MRI this week so we will know how well the brain radiation worked.  I started Tarceva in September and during the past few weeks I have lost my appetite.  Nothing tastes good.  I am able to drink Ensure, but I'm getting bored and want food.  I am a 48 year-old mother of 3 and I need to keep eating!  Does anybody have any suggestions?

Have you tried soups, there are alot of great varieties in the larger chains. You could also try making juice slushies in the blender, mix fresh friuts with ice and a small amount of juice. Also can mix your suppliments in blender with yogurt, lots of different flavors out there for some variety. Another option is to cook broth on stove with some fresh veggies drain the liqiud off and drink after it cools. I sometime take chicken beef or pork boil till done and add bisquick mixed with water till it will form small dumpling and cook until it falls apart to make it more like a cream soup. I have found that if you dont add salt or pepper it doesn't upset stomach too much. Hope that helps.              Milly

My dad has taken Megace oral. He had gained back about 10lbs in about 3weeks.

I also used Megace and you will be amazed it about how hungry you can be on Megace.  To gain I also added benecal to my smoothie.  It has about 300 calories.  You can find it at Walgreens online.  Hope this helps.

God bless
