surgery on Thurs!

My hubby will have his Ivor Lewis on Thursday, and we are so looking forward to moving on into a new chapter of our lives.  We are pleased with our surgeon and our team at MD Anderson and we can't say enough good about them.  It has been a terrifying journey thus far, as everyone here knows.  It has been good though, to feel our team really cared and were working hard for my husband.

They fasttrack their EC patients, so hubby will be walking Thursday evening!  They believe they have less complications this way, and we will be out of hospital hopefully in 7 days.

Thanks for all the info you have all provided.

Good luck to your husband and you tomorrow.  We felt the same way about our medical team going into the surgery and we were right because my husband Joe had no complications following the Ivor Lewis surgery and was also out in a week.  Please keep us all posted.

I, too, wish your husband and you the best of luck. Be sure to keep us all posted as we will all be pulling for your husband. Remember, recovery takes some time, but be patient. It will work out fine.

Good Luck, KEEP MOVING, and Laugh Much,

Steve

Good luck tomorrow with the surgery and it will be a long day for you waiting while the husband takes a nap. I know everything will turn out find and like Steve stated, "recovery takes some time." I will say a prayer for him and you in the morning and as long as they are needed. Take Care and GOD Bless. Phil A

You will be in my prayers.    May God continue to bless you.   I know you are in great hands at MDA.

Godspeed,

He is doing well.  Epidural moved a bit...and isn't working like they would like, but their pain management team has been fantastic, truly.  He has been walking a lot and coughing--doing those exercises.  They took out all the nodes they could grab, they took a look at major organs, even found an old nodule on the lung we had followed for 2 years ten years ago...and it was, as we had been assured then, scar tissue.  I love how thorough they are.

I am amazed how clean the cuts are and how well he is healing even on his second day.  I love how they held our hands all the way through, updating me every 2 hours, the nurses from his floor came down to prepare me for his stay there--and how he would look, and all the procedures he had to go through the first few days.

The surgeon says that he thinks he got everything...and that he has never seen such a great case.  :)  Layne handled all his chemo/rad and even this surgery very, very well.

Thanks for all your input and those of you who have written me personally, all your sweet emails and concern.  It means more than you can know.  Now I just have to believe that we have won and live like that. :)
