Nexavar after Sutent - Anyone Had Shrinkage

My husband was on sutent for 2.5 years before he had slight progression then he went on afinitor for 3 months. The cancer spead to his lymph nodes and lungs while on afinitor. He has been on nexavar for 2 months and has CT, MRI and ultrasound scheduled.  He has developed an cough on nexavar, otherwise the side effects - rash, itchy scalp, thinning hair and mouth sores - are manageable. Has anyone seen shrinkage or stability on nexavar after other Rxs have failed?

Nancy,

My husband did well on 37.5 mg sutent for over 2 years after being on 50 mg for 4 months. The side effects were much more tolerable on the lower dosage.

Before approval there was a lot of hype for Afinitor but like you I haven't heard much positive about it since the FDA ok'd it. Friday the FDA approved Votrient which had positive results in trials  after sutent or nexavar failed.

Tomorrow we get CT results and I suspect the news won't be good since last week the doctor said we'll talk about available options on Monday. I will ask about Votrient. My husband does not want to do trials or take IV therapy which limits options significantly.

Your husband's chances of doing well on 37.5 mg are great. Good luck.

Shari
