My mom was was diagnosed in June and decided not to seek any treatment. She is a nurse and 66 years old. She has excessive mucus and we are told there is nothing that can help. She has a jar that she spits in and she cannot swallow. She now has pain in her neck. She is getting a peg tube inserted on Monday. Can anyone please recommend some type of relief for my mom please?

We have found something as simple as benadryl or zyrtec have worked...for some reason he developed major post nasal stuff with this. Others use Mucinex since Bendryl can make you sleepy. Maybe that's too simple, but it's worked for us for over 3 years.

My husband had the same thing then followed by a dry cough that was constant. They prescribed augmentin and finally he did get relief with the mucous and cough and so far it hasn't come back. Drink plenty of fluids and mucinex.
