constant tearing

Due to the RAI treatment I have been tearing constantly for almost 2 years.  I went to an eye doctor and was told I needing tear duct surgery.  I already had an eye infection.

Did anyone else have blocked tear ducts as a side effect of RAI?

If so, what have your doctors told you to do besides the option of surgery?

Yes!  I'm going on 3 years and have this everyday.  Somedays it's better than others.  In the morning my tear ducts are full and bulging.  As the day goes on, I have tears running down my face.   If I press on the swollen area, the tears seem to drain quicker.  I've had no help from the doctors.  As side effects go, this is a mild one for me.  I do believe my tear ducts and sinuses have been damaged.  You are not alone.  Let me know if you find anything else out.

I thought it was just me, not to sound mean, but thank goodness its not. I have very pufdy eyes now and alot of tearing. Have you been told why this occurs cuz I have not?! any help would be greatly appreciated at this point. My eyes burn alot too. I just had my RAI today, well on the 3rd, as its after midnight now. I cant sleep dur to the discomfort in my throat and neck. I have tue sour candy and fluids and my neck continues to swell anyway. I had a dose of 150 maybe thata why but I wasnt told this was a possible side effect, the tearing.

My Dr. put me on Restasis. If I stop using it my eyes burn and run. I use it once in the morning and once in the evening. I also use saline drops as needed. The tearing believe it or not is actually a result from dry eye.

hmmm....with me it seems like the eyes fill but won't drain. ... I thought that was because the large dose of RAI (146 mCi) kind of fried those tiny ducts.....not sure, all conjecture...I'm sure there could be more than one reason for the discomfort..?

I had 2 doses of I-131.  First one was 75mci and the second was 200mci.  My tearing problem started right after the 2nd dose.  Tink2002 - my eyes won't drain either -  unless I put pressure on the tear ducts.  People think I'm crying all the time.
