Another clean scan. Avastin is working

Its been a while since i posted on here but I just wanted to update everyone with my mothers great news.  Her MRI last week showed no growths and no areas of concern.  Everything looked good according to her DR.  My mother (59 yrs old) was diagnosed in Jan 08 with GBM stage 4 and had surgery to remove almost all of the tumor.  Then did the standard treatment of Radiation and Temador.  She had an alergic reaction to the Temador and stopped it after 9 months and the tumors reoccured in 4 different areas.  Then tried CCNU which showed no success. She then started Avastin in May 09 and since then the tumors have shrunk and are no longer visable and she continues to recieve clean scans.  She has had 14 treatments of  Avastin with one every two weeks with little side effects.  Besides the fatigue and not being able to walk far or stand for long periods of time my mother is in good spirits and health.  I believe the Avastin is doing its job to keep the tumors away and hopefully it continues.  My mother will be celebrating her 60th birthday this month and her 2 year survival in January. 

Wow Matt that is the best news I've heard in ages. GO AVASTIN!!!!!!!!!! I really hope it works for Andy too...

I totally agree. My mother did really well with Avastin. It wasn't until after radiation, that her health began to decline. She always looked forward to her Avastin treatments because she knew she would feel better after.  There must be nothing better than a clear scan. That's awesome!!!! I will continue to pray for a cure to this horrible cancer.

That's awesome.  My husband insisted on Avastin before regrowth, and unfortunately we've seen some preliminary progression but have now added CPT-11 so praying for a clear scan in two weeks.  Great news on the 2 year mark!

Great news, Matt. Avastin kept me clear for 15 months, and it's easy to tolerate. Hope it continues to do the job. And Happy Birthday to your Mom
