My sister, age 55 dx 7/09 occipital GBM IV 75% resected and has had radiation and chemo.  Has recently been experiencing hand tremors.  I'm scared that this may be a sign of the tumor returning.  Her MRI is scheduled for end of November.  Can anyone shed light on this?

God Bless you all!

Go to the doctor - could be the tumor or a side effect of one of the medications or something completely different or all of the above.

Is your sister on Decadron (steroids)?  My husband is on this for swelling as are most brain tumor patients.  These can cause hand tremors.  Are both hands trembling.  If so, is likely that it is caused by the steroids, if she is on them.  However, she should still discuss with her NO.  They want to know everything that is different from what is normal.  Hope this helps and best wishes for your sister and family.

No problem - with my dad we had his complete medical history, the current medications he was on, ANYTHING new that had developed because one would be surprised by the errors the doctors can make.   They might be so focused on one little aspect that the big picture can be lost or delayed so it is important to be an active participant in this process.

Unfortunately, I think I can. My GBM is also on my occipital lobe, just had my third surgery--each time "all" of the tumor removed. Last week I began experiencing left hand and foot numbness and tingling, and some perceived weakness of the left hand (hence, my faulty typing). I had an mri shortly after my surgery as part of screening for a clinical trial. The mri showed some enhancement near the tumor cavity, which my docs are currently unsure of because of the closeness of the mri to the surgery. Normally, they said, they would never have performed an mri so soon after surgery because a million things could be going on in there. But I know one of them is regrowth. Another, of course is edema, since I'm off steroids to help with wound healing. They've ordered an mri for Nov. 23. But your sister is further removed from surgery so the issues may be different. Maybe you can try to get the mri moved up a bit and definitely call the doc to let them know about these tremors if you haven't already. They may want to examine her for strength, etc. or review her medications. Goodness I wish you luck. Feeling a little lost myself after more than 2 years of battling this. By the way, I'm 54--so hoping to see 55. NEVER THOUGHT i'D SAY THAT!

Thank you all for your replies.  I really appreciate your feedback.  The NO said that it could be tumor regrowth, may move up MRI that was scheduled for Nov 21.  He also mentioned the meds or Decadron

God Bless
