my dad is fighting stage 4 melanoma.  he has very large/deep nodules covering his back and after 2 stages of chemo treatment the ct scan shows his cancer has spread to the lungs and liver.  it has taken over his back internally and is starting to cover his back on the surface.  the surgeon says she can't operate on his back because the cancer is so aggressive that it will grow back by the time he heals from teh surgery.  i really don't know what i'm looking for here.  support/encouragement i guess.  my dad was given 2 months to live and i'm scared.

I'm very sorry to hear of the challenge you're facing. I know more about what your dad is dealing with. I too was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma and was given less than 5% chance of surviving 6 months. That was in 2000 praise God.

Today there is no evidence of melanoma in my body. What I do have are the memories of those individuals that offered love, care and encouragment to both me and my wife 24 hours a day. The best thing they did was to keep me doing the things I loved to do. This reminded me of what I was fighting for and believe me...in this situation staying "alive" does not seem to be the best choice.

Trust me, when I tell you from the patients point of view, as you lay there watching what those you love are having to endure because of you, your convinced it would be easier if you were dead.

It doesn't matter how big the smile is on your face when you enter the room to visit your dad. What does matter is that you don't except your dad saying "I can't" when offered the opportunity to do what you know he loves to do. I love to sing gospel music and so between receiving treatment in ICU my family and friends would schedule concerts for me to do. I would stand or sit on stage holding not only the mic but also the mic stand and offer my best. As I watched the faces of those I love while sharing another wonderful life moment, I was reminded that this is what the battle was all about.

I know Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and because of this there is no room for fear or doubt. I encourage you to believe and trust Him and not medical science. I have overcome cancer ByFaith and survived treatment and I know you can overcome all things.

In HIS care,

Vaughn
