My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with metastasis to her stomach she is on avastin and 5fu, she is doing great. I also have an associated diagnosed with cancer and he's not doing so well. My mom started no tap water at all! She cooks with bottled water. Fruits and veggies are raw (organic is essential) high vitamin c, and anti oxidents (super fruits) as well as high protein seafood. My mom was resistant with a diet change at first but by her second bloodwork she was on board.

Don't be afraid to research, try a different doctor or tell ya'lls doctor what you want. Stay positive, praying for you. A lot of information is out there and survivors.

Jackie, oops hit enter before I finished last post.

My Rob has had a new growth after 3 months of biweekly avastin and 5/23 temador. He is now off both and doing 11 treatments of stereotactic radiotherapy.  He is scheduled to go back on avastin, temador after rad.  I don't know what would be next, possibly cpt 11.  I read about people on thalidomide or tamoxifen.  Still researching.  Rob can have no more rad.  He had 11 days in July on another new spot and also the 30 days standard.  I am praying for a vaccine that would be available.  Checking virtualtrials.com often.

My thoughts and prayers,

Donna, Rob's wife

I also had regrowth with Avastin, but it worked for almost 15 months! There are many other drugs and combinations of drugs out there. Your neuronc should be aware of them and their efficacy. I just entered a Phase 2 trial of Azixa that my onc is very high on. It's an Avastin-like blood blocker with very few side effects, so quality of life is much like that of those on Avastin alone. Check out virtual trials or ask the dr. The trial is being administered at many hospitals throughout the country.

Donna,

My husband is on a vaccine trial at Duke.  He started it after the standard treatment -- Temodar/radiation.

My husband was on Temador and Avastin for 22 months. Dx 11/07. It's been a good run. He has had no problems with very good quality.

Just recently (Oct.) he has reccurance. It's significant and inoperatable, with little options because it's reccurance.

What I have learned through this is,Although Avastin is becoming widely used for GBM and shows promise it does compromises mri's. Makes mri's harder to read or see new stuff going on. Would  we have changed our course of action?.... No

Avastin with Temador and the fact that he was healthy going into this has given him more time than we ever thought.

There was an area of concern in May, Aug was worse and now we are looking at a fairly large area of infiltration.(not a tumor) itseemed to appear "all of the sudden"

He is starting a trial known as XL184. I'm told it's in the same catagory of Avastin with little side effects.

He was screened earlier this week to be accepted into the trial. Within two weeks of the last mri, to this one. The "area of concern" has gotten worse and so has his symptoms.

We're hoping he can getthe go head to start the trial asap.

I'll keep you posted.

I hope you find a new form of treatment that is succesful for your FIL

Take care

I think your  Neuro Onc. has to refer you. There are so many variables to getting into a trial. He should know which trial catagory your fil would fit  into.

Good Luck
