I had undergone lower anterior resection surgery about 2 months ago. My rectum was removed. I have pain in my anal area and discharge. The discharge is very troubling as it may happen once in three hours or three times in a half hour...

Has anyone experienced this type of issue

I had a lower anterior resection June 08 and I also had my rectum removed. I was quite concerned myself when discharge started pouring out of me so much I had to wear pads. I discussed this with my doctor and she said it was completely nomal and it would end soon, it did after a few months but occasionally it comes back. It had an awful odor also and I was very self conscience about it. I suggest you talk to your doctor to make sure there is no infection, I had multiple infections and you want to make sure there isn't anything else going on. Good luck.

Oh dear, that sounds extremely uncomfortable.

I am facing a low anterior resection myself, and this makes me wonder if I should choose the radiation and chemotherapy instead.  The doctor said I had a choice: if you had a choice, which would you choose, having had the surgery and these problems?

I am no doctor or health care professional. Trust God and your doctors and don't second guess yourself.   If you are unsure get a second opnion. At 50 my recovery has been slow.

I wish you the best of luck!

May God bless you!
