End stage - what can we expect?

My husband has had 3 years wonderful years thanks to sutent. When sutent stopped being effect he tried afinitor and nexavar to no avail. He opted not to participate in trials and has elected not to try avastin because the success rate is low and side effects unpleasant. His liver, lungs and lymph nodes have been invaded by the cancer. What can we expect now that he has stopped treatment. Thank you.

I suggest you contact hospice because not only do they do a wonderful job of helping your loved one have the best quality of life possible during such a horrible time, but they also provide so much support to the family.  They can help you know what to expect.  They even have booklets that detail "when the end is near" and what to expect.  Hospice is a wonderful support for everyone involved.

I'm sorry your husband has run out of luck.  My husband was on Torisel for 8 months and is now on Sutent (in his 5th cycle).  He will have scans in 3 days...we pray for good news.  Oh, how I hate cancer!  You and your husband are in my prayers.

We concur that you should contact Hospice as soon as possible. They can answer your questions and make what time your husband has left comfortable.  They have helped us in the past with my wife's son who had brain cancer.

This is just a reply of support and prayers. We had hospice for my mother in law, and all went smoothly, although it all seems surreal when CA is the culprit. Hospice nurses are a rare and special breed of caregivers, as they treat the patient, and the family, especially in the last hours.  Prayers sent as I type this tonight.
