Does anybody know whether we should follow a low iodine diet when you have your whole body scan examination? My doctor did not mention anything about it. Any previous experience?

first, I want to point out that no one thing seems to be done by all doctors the same way.  However, most of us that have a wbs follow the low iodine diet for 2-4 weeks.  Also, we usually have to either go hypo (off meds for 2-4 weeks) or receive thyrogen injections before the scan.  The purpose of the diet is to starve our bodies for that iodine so that when we get the dose of  RadioActive Iodine the thyroid cells (possibly thyroid cancer cells) suck up all the RAI and show up on the scan...

my first time my endo did NOT recommend LID...when I spoke with the nuclear med doctor he had me follow it as best I could before the ablation dose and following scan.
