Hi: My mom has been diagnosed with Cutaneous Angiosarcoma two weeks ago. She had what we thought was a bruise on her left hip. After it didn't start to heal we had it checked out and was told she has this awful cancer. She's normally healthy and only 61 years old.

I haven't been able to find a lot of information on this cancer because of its rarity. The information I do find has a horrible "terminal" prognosis.

Right now her tumor is too big to operate on and she is receiving radiation five days a week for six weeks. I think that is to contain it and/or shrink it so she can get it operated on.

My question for anyone who had experienced this is.... Are her chances for survival with this "rare & often terminal" cancer possible? If they cannot operate on the tumor is the only outcome death?

I'm very confused about how this is going to work out. Some doctors have said there is nothing they can do, basically go home and die and one doctor thinks radiation can help. Help what, prolong her life temporarily or cure it?

I know that no one knows the future, but I really could use some feedback from someone who may have experienced something similar.

Thank you,
Sandra

Hi. My dad was diagnosed with angiosarcoma of the scalp just over 2 years ago. The prognosis he received was terrible. the doctors said that it was very aggressive and that many people didn't survive for more than 1 year. The area was too big for it to be surgically removed so they gave him a high dose of radiation. It seemed to get rid of the cancer. He is still in remission now and goes for his 6 monthly visits to the specialist. We just take each days as it comes. Anyway I hope this gives you some hope. Good luck.
