Treatment Crossroads

Subject: Treatment Crossroads
Date: 07/15/2003
My husband was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer with mets to the liver in March 2003. He has had 5fu via a pump continuously and then cisplatin & epirubicin every 21 days for 6 treatments. He was doing really well - his tumors had shrunk 30% his markers were close to normal and he is feeling great. Now we just found out that the markers are up a little so the doctor thinks the tumors have grown tolerant to the chemo drugs. We have an appointment on 7/29. Is this something that commonly happens? Are there other drugs out there they can use? We're really scared that the doctor will say that there is nothing more they can do. He feels really good, has lots of energy, eats well, hasn't lost an ounce, works full time and plays bass guitar in a rock band! I cannot accept that there would be no treatment options for him!! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Judie
