hello everyone, my name is robin and my 59 year old sister was diagnosed with stage 4 lung with mets to brain, liver, and spine in june 2004. this was discovered when they found a tumor on her spine. surgery on the tumor removing as much as possible then chemo and radiation for brain and spine. she was given 3-6 months and it is now going on 20 months. and she is still taking chemo. the radiation was suppose to be finished but now her doctor wants to give her cyberknife but insurance will not approve the 20,000$ procedure. i am very interested to check out the herb site mentioned here since i have been reading about coriolus versicolor(mushrooms) for treating immune systems in cancer patients. most of all i would like to say....do not listen to the doom and gloom doctors tell you. figure out a way to enjoy everyday. and as a caregiver accept the fact that your family member does not want to talk about the disease. i have had a great deal of problems with my sister. she will not eat properly. i have asked her to get some therapy with an outsider to let out some of her anger since she is lashing out at her family and husband. but she does walk alot and i believe she could live for years if she would take better care of herself. she does want to live which i started to question too. i also found ensure plus since the chemo causes people to lose their desire for food. 2-3 a day can keep the weight on but it has to be the plus ensure. but as a caregiver for 19+ months you too will have highs and lows that will be difficult to deal with. talk to everyone let them know how you feel and you will be surprised at the suggestions people will have for you. is anyone else dealing with anger issues with the person that is sick. i just don't know how to deal with it. i did write a letter to my sister and she will be recieving it today(i am in ny she is in ca) and it talks about trying to live each day to the fullest and get her anger under control and that she has tons of support if she would just accept the help, she's a control freak. my prayers for everyone here, robin

Hi Robin,
My father also has lung cancer too. As soon as we heard this, we have been giving him drinks with whey powder in it...to help him regain some of the weight he had loss. It's been a long process but he has gained back about 5 pounds in 2 months. We give him the whey powder drink twice a day and include Berry Green - which contain organic fruits and vegetables; Perfect Food - this has wheatgrass in it; CoQ10; Vitamin C powder and a teaspoon of cod liver oil. So in essence, this is a very powerful drink with a high nutritional value. On top of all that, we juice fresh veggies and fruit daily for him; give him essiac tea twice a day; eliminate ALL sugar from his diet (apparently cancer cells love sugar); and red meat.
A few weeks ago, we started to try something that is called Transfer Factor (from 4life) and it seems to have given him more energy (these are capsules that help build your immune system)...perhaps, you should do some research on these products and decide whether any of this can help your sister.
Take care.
