My mother will start on a clinical trial with the drug GW786034. Is anyone familiar with this medication? I know it is an angiogenesis inhibitor but I am wondering what results have been obtained with it. She had her kidney removed but 6 months later lesions were found in her lungs. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am not familiar with this drug. However, my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Dec. of '04. He had a nephrectomy and we thought all was well. In May of '05, we found out it had metastasized to the liver. We had another surgery and met with an oncologist. We were told there was no cure for kidney cancer and we'd just have to wait for another tumor to develop then face more surgery. Dissatisfied with this prognosis, we contacted the Kidney Cancer Society and were directed to the University of Minnesota and Dr. Arkadiusz Dudek. He found more cancer in the liver and entered my husband in a clinical trial for Sutent by Pfizer. My husband has been taking the drug for six months now and I am glad to say he has no signs of the cancer or tumors in any of his scans. Sutent was approved for public use on January 26, 2006 and is now available in most pharmacies. We are sold. Ask you doctor about this treatment option.

Richard,
I notice that you submitted this message quite a while ago. Has your mother started? I was supposed to start today but a mess-up in the lab has cost me a day or two, no big deal. I was wondering how she is doing.

I have some information that my hospital sent me via email that I could forward to you. I just signed up on this board to be able to reply to your message. If there is a way to send me a private message, send me your email address and I'll forward the information to you.

Robby:

My mother started the trial about 1 month ago. She stopped for 1 week because her blood pressure was too high. They got it under control and she is back on the medication at a lower dose. Side effects are intestinal problems, fatigue as well as the increase in her blood pressure. I would be interested in seeing the information that you have. I would also be happy to share any information that I have. You can contact me at --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, phone number removed. Richard,
My dad is going to be starting the trial in a coupld weeks. Previously he was doing IL2/Avastin trial at UCLA, but he continued to have growth so the doctor's decided that this could be a good route for him. What treatment did your mother do prior to this trial? I hope that she continues to do well and she will be in my prayers. Any information that you have about this trial would be greatly appreciated and please keep me updated about your mother's progress.
Sincerely,
Jenna

Jenna

Jenna,
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for my mother. She has been on the clinical trial for about 1 month and the side effects have been nausea, high blood pressure, and fatigue. It was hard to get the blood pressure under control but now it is okay. We are trying to find something that will help the nausea. It is too early to say if the medicine is working. She had no prior treatment other than a nephrectomy last year. I would be happy to give you any information that I have.

I hope that your father is doing well and that this medicine will work for him.
Take care,
Richard
