diagnoised with stage iv breast cancer metastasized to bones in spine and pelvic

Hi, I am awaiting my results form a breast biopsy but was told I probable have stage iv breast cancer that has gone to my bones. I currently have a lower back fravture which brought along other tests to see why this happened. My mamagram came out ok but my CAT scan showed suspicion in my breast along with 6-8 places in my spine, ribs, pelvic, etc. I have been reading a lot I want to start on treatment. I have been suffering with my broken bone in my back for 5 months and feel a lot of pain in the places the CAT scan showed disease. Should I start taking Immunopower, Ultramet, Polymvul or is there soething better. I think the doctors will give me a gloomy outlook but I want to start fighting back right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good for you - start fighting now, and don't give up until your heart tells you to, and even then second guess your decisions three or four times! :)

I am so sorry about your probable diagnosis. So, your mamagram came back okay? Holy cow... that seems so strange. I am so very sorry you may be in the Cancer Sucks club. My father was diagnosed with stage IV - multifocal Glioblastoma Multiforme brain cancer last October 09. He is doing so well despite the monster lurking under his skull.

I hope everything goes well for you - and may I suggest the book: Anticancer - A new way of life by David Servan-Schreiber. It has a ton of information in it about nurtrition and the power of your mind (not in a weirdo type way either!). He is a neuroscientist, a doctor, a author, and most importantly a survivor, yes a brain cancer survivor of 17 years.

God Bless,

Tina J. - daughter of GBM warrior!

Hi, Have you been given your diagnosis yet?  Your case sounds very similar to mine, depending on what type of cancer you actually have.  You can click on my profile to read about mine, but the bottom line for me is that having Stage IV LOBULAR breast cancer (which was determined by a biopsy to a couple of my vertibrae) is not such a bad thing, so don't panic.  I was diagnosed in July & thought I wouldn't have much time so I gave away a lot of things that I wish I had kept since I really feel just like I did before I knew I had cancer.... some aches & pains, but mostly just fine.  I have no symptoms at all & have been told I can "live for years" with this disease & that seems to be the way Stage IV lobular breast cancer works because I've heard from others who are the same. If your diagnosis is the same, I can go into more detail as far as treatment goes.  I'll be hoping for the best for you.  Write me....... Toni

sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer but was told it can not be staged until after surgery. I am so confused about this.  Dr. did say because of the size it is stage II but won't know till later. I am doing 6 tretments of chemo then told full mastectomy, then radiation then 5 yrs. on some kind of pill.  Mine is not mestastasized. Any info on staging would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Diane

i also have breast cancer that has gone to my bones. My spine, pelvis, ribs, shoulder & leg. The radiation did help the back pain, reduced some compression on my spinal cord. have to take arimedex for 5 years & will start zometa next month, once a month for at least a year. My diagnosis is not good, however they come out with new treatments every day. So keep the faith. Dont know what the side effects are for zometa yet, the radiation caused nausea & fatigue. I notice a small amount of hair loss, but not significant right now. My son had a glioblastoma brain tumor 3 years ago, the dr. said he had 9 monthe to live, but we never gave up & he is 2 & a half years cancer free. Never let them tell you how long you have. they dont really know. Good luck.

I too have stage IV lobular breast cancer which also is in most of my bones.  I've been getting monthly infusions of Zometa since Aug. & have never had any side effects.

I'm curious about your back bone compression... that is my biggest fear. How did you know you had it? I guess you did not require surgery for that. (?)

I really have no symptoms other than back ache and pain in the tips of my shoulder bones. I too have mets to my back, ribs, shoulders, neck, feet, and wrist.  But basically, I feel fine. I was diagnosed in July of last year.  When were you diagnosed?    It seems so odd to me that I feel fine and yet have a stage IV cancer! I've had no radiation, chemo or surgery, other than 2 biopsies... not that I'm complaining! I feel very thankful to have this particular type of cancer.

I'd appreciate any info you feel like sharing....

Hi, my diagnosis is about the same as yours, stage IV lobular breast cancer with mets to back bones, ribs, shoulders, neck, feet & wrist.  But I mostly feel fine!  Very strange!  I'm curious about your back surgery due to compression.... did the surgery fix you up?  Can you walk normally? Move normally? That bone compression on the spinal cord thing is my biggest fear!  Were you told not to lift anything heavy before your bones compressed?  I hope you are doing well after that surgery...  Any info would be appreciated. I have not been able to find many similar cases to my own & still have so many questions... but I'm not in a panic anymore.  Apparently if I have to have a stage IV cancer, this is the one to have.. so I'm thankful.

Sorry about the delay in my response. I have ducual Sage IV, diag was at time of mri for back pain - I should really say I was way past pain and into no pain - could not walk, would not stand could not move legs - many tumors spinal cord compression mets to many bones in spine and one rib. surgery.   No fusion doc did not want to cover anything up - rods and pins T7 to L5. Yes I can walk - had movement and feeling right after surgery, but needed a walker at first due to being weak. I walk pretty normal, but at a slower pace. Do not use walker or cane , got rid of that about 3 month after surgery. cannot rotate, have trouble shaving legs won't turn as they used to, stooping is sometimes a problem if I drop something must get on knees to pick anything up, flexability will most likely never be the same but then that also depends on how much of your back was fused - once in awhile I do get a tad of numbness in one foot depending if I lift to much or turn a certain and if I get stressed my back muscles tense up and when doing chores I normaly bind myself or wear a support - it helps.  It's all a pain in the butt as I was very active before , but it sure beats spending your life in a wheelchair - so I complain some days but most days I say THANK YOU GOD. If you are getting zometa or arimidex and have aches, pains or cramps it could be from the medication, I personally have never had a problem with either.  All in all the surgery was a fantastic sucess . I'm sure things will improve for you too, it just takes time.  Take care and MAY THE BLESSING BE!!!!!!!!!!!
