Subject: Radical Nep Scheduled For March...isn't That Too Far Away?
Date: 02/13/2006
My mother was diagnosed with rcc in januaray and possible met to liver. 1st urologist we were referred was very discouraging. Went for a 2nd opinion and doctor said, cancer in kidney nothing in liver.

However, we are scheduled for a radical neph on March 27th..When I told the doctor this appt is too far and won't the cancer spread. He said and I quote "not that fast". I am trying to convince my mother to go to another doctor and she is not in agreement right now.

I need some advice, encouragement or some hope...I mean, is he right? will it not spread that fast? I do not think he is right..I mean its cancer.

Thank You
G

A month delay in scheduling is not unusual. It is better to take the time to get an experienced urologic surgeon (preferably one who can do a hand-asssisted laparascopic procedure, if medically feasible) than rush to get it out tomorrow.

Since there is a possibility that your mother has a liver met, she should see an oncologist who has experience in treating kidney cancer patients. Kidney cancer is resistant to conventional chemo and radiation, but there are treatments available. You can find a urologist and oncologist with experience treating kidney cancer near you by calling the kidney cancer association at 800.850.9132.

There is an email suppport group specific to kidney cancer. See http://cancerguide.org/kofaq/ to join. See http://cancerguide.org/kofaq/ koinfoframe.html for more information about kidney cancer.
