I was just diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago. I had a lump in my throat and had it biopsied. It came back cancerous and then q week later I went it for a radical neck disectionand to have my tonsils removed. It has been 5 days since the surgery and i have appointments with 3 different oncology centers. I am hoping with three different opinions, someone will come up with a game plan which is the least "life restricting". I guess I don't have a question, I just wanted to let someone else know they are not alone. I am fighting this and I am going to win. So anyone else out there want to fight I will provide words of encouragement to help them win their battle too.

Hi. I was told 3days ago that i had cancer of
the tonsils. Since then i have had 4 CT scans
and have had 2 biopsies taken, and still have more to come. I am booked in to hospital to
have the tonsils removed on tuesday morning.
After that i start on chemotherapy. So it is all
happening. Are you having surgery yourself, if
so when are you having it. Do you get a rotten
sour taste in your mouth. If i do not hear from
you, i will let you know how i got on with my
surgery.
Kindest Regards

i love your attitude and believe me that is 90% of this fight. i was dx oct 2005 with gmbiv - brain cancer. like you, i am determined i will survive this battle. following the diagnosis, i became the disease. i read evey book i could get my hands on to educate myself. i am a lot wiser now and in hindsight i wish i had pursued asecond opinion before i jumped into surgey. the diagnosis took us completely off guard i went along with whateve was suggested. you are definitly doing the right thing with searhing out other opinions. now i am living life as a survivor, not a disease. my faith has deinitly been deepened through his expeience and brings me so much comfort.
please let us know how you are getting along.

I had surgery a week ago. The surgery went well. They were able to remove 80% of the cancer. Part of my "brave" attitude is that, I don't think it has hit me yet. That fact that I have cancer. Next week, I have 3 appointments. Two in Las Vegas with two different oncologist and then I am flying to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale for a third opinion. After that I hope to find a gameplan to attack the rest of my cancer. I am glad you are a survivor and I hope I will be a survivor also. I have 3 kids and a wife I want to be around for.

Alan,
Good luck and best wishes. I had surgery a week ago and they got 80% of it. I had a left neck disection and both tonsils out. My neck hurts and it is hard to swallow but I started eating regular food right away. I just cut up my food it small pieces. I don't want to lose any weight before I start radiation. My advice to you is to eat lots of small meals. Don't do the large sit down meal. Do a lot of snacking all day long. It makes eating easier. The other problem I am having is that my saliva thickens and it makes it hard to breath and sleep at night. I have not found a solution for that yet. Good luck and keep you hopes up high. Cancer is not a winner, we are the winners and we will beat this.
