Adenocarcinoma of the appendix

Does anyone have accurate statistics on the occurrence of appendix adenocarcinoma? Also stats on genetic tendency? My husband had adenocarcinoma of appendix back in 1989, had right hemicolectomy, no chemo or radiation therapy then. Four years later, a large mass was found on right adrenal gland, smaller deposits in lung, liver, bone. It was right through his peritoneum. They debulked the mass on right adrenal gland at that time and gave some chemo and radiation therapy, and he died 6 months after that. He was 42 when he died. I live in Australia. Thanks for any statistics you can provide.

I am very sorry to hear of your husband's passing due to this challenging diagnosis.  I share his diagnosis and was dx'd in 1998. I am not cancer free and have had much of my digestive system removed, but I have outlived my prognosis!

As you may know, Prof David L Morris is the leading authority on this dx in AU.

You can read more about adenocarcinoma of the appendix, and about Prof Morris on our website at www.pmppals.org

Best wishes to you

Thank you very much for your reply.  I didn't know about Prof Morris nor about that website.  I have just spent hours reading and printing off information.  I appreciate your assistance.  I suspect back in 1998 there was alot less known about appendix cancer.  Indeed the diagnosis all along was called bowel cancer by all the doctors, and I can see from the readings that my husband's cancer was not treated as aggressively as it could have been perhaps.  Kind regards

I apologise, I made an error with the year that I wrote.  I put 1998, but meant 1989, which was when my husband's diagnosis was made.

I was wondering if anyone knows the odds of my children (now aged between 25 and 33 years) getting appendix cancer (adenocarcinoma), as Chris first got appendix cancer when 37 years and died at 42 years. I wrote the previous lead story of this blog. Is it the same as with bowel cancer, where the children are advised to have colonoscopies 10 or 15 years prior to first appearance of the first cancer? I'd appreciate any information about the genetic tendency of this rare cancer. Also is there any link found to such things as meat consumption etc, as with bowel cancer? Thanks kindly,
