Blaire,

Kick arrrrrse....I too am your age and have been there........feel all your senses-what it feels to be truly alive.....pray and learn more about faith, trust and hope....believe in the positive.....if you had to do a 30 to 60 TV or radio ad regarding how you feel and this experience how would you write it or shoot it........

the God of the Universe(who has counted the hairs on your head and knows you by name)  patiently ignores the bravado of the Noisy Big bully cancer and provides those with sufficient grace to those who have faith....

and....Faith triumphs over fear.....

Hope man-handles doubt....

Self-sacrifice and service suppresses selfishness and imploding,

Confidence cleanses cautiousness,

Rational thinking defeats irrational notions,

Analysis defeats anxiety (unless it results in endless paralyzing analysis which is chronic anxiety disguised)

Selfless love defeats death,

I wish you well monday-keep the faith!  For what is there truly left at the end of the day and the sunset of our Lives aside from Love.

Dave

This is my opinion.. take it for what it is worth. I gave the same opinion to my hub who did have oral cancer.

Go to a large cancer center and find the best Ear, Nose, Throat surgeon. I would not let anyone biopsy me until I saw them. Our local ENT wanted to scope my hubby; we knew he had a golf ball mass on his right neck. Something did not feel right to me.. why biopsy? Why not find an ENT surgeon that will do what needs to be done in one shot?

Usually each surgeon wants their own biopsy. My dad had leukemia; he had a core biopsy at hospital 1.. when he was moved to hospital 2, which was a cancer center; they waited a few days then did their own; so he had 2 painful biopsies within a few days of each other.

What I said to my hub; why give yourself more pain if you don't need to? He was ok with letting local ENT 1 do scope biopsy plus seeing ENT cancer specialist & letting him do another. You know what? He eventually listened & no time was wasted. Biopsy 1 was supposed to be 9/7 - we saw ENT specialist 9/8. You know what he said when we saw him at the office? Yeah, neck mass, right tonsil is the origin & you probably have nodes affected. We'll get you in for surgery 9/22 & take everything out & have our lab biopsy it. & they did. We had results within days where had we gone to ENT 1; his results probably wouldn't have been back because they had to be sent out.

Ask how long for results.

I'll post back with more thoughts.. wanted to give you something to think about.

forgot to say that when biopsy results finally were sent to the cancer center; they would have had to do their own anyway because the testing wasn't thorough enough.

We actually canceled his. Everything happened so fast; they tell you to do this and this & you're so freaked out by the big "C" word that you just do it. Hub is easy going & was willing to do anything; after dealing with my dad I didn't see any reason to put hub through more pain. You get a biopsy tomorrow, then when would surgery be or treatment? A good ENT should be able to look in your throat & tell you what they think. They do a scope down the nose right in the office. There was a question of cancer on the base of hub's tongue from ENT #1.. ENT #2 said no way & all he did was a nose scope.

I would call the hospital 1st thing in the morning. Tell them whatever you want; I think we said we wanted other opinions before doing something like this.

I don't want to scare you but if the person is not skilled, they can actually hurt you. At another board I go to; something happened where they perforated the esophogus or something like that & due to that happening, messed everything up with the outcome.. it's like, oh, we're sorry. Of course you can't do anything because you sign your life away before surgery.

Find the best ENT surgeon associated with the best cancer center by you. If you call the # I gave you. they should be able to tell you what office it is. When I was doing research, I knew I wanted one of the top 3 in Philadelphia & after meeting the ENT head at Jefferson; hubby didn't want to go anywhere else. If you have cancer; you get one shot to deal with it.

Have they given you any tests?

Where exactly did he say he thinks the cancer is?

~Hugs

You're welcome. Someone else may have a different opinion then mine; hopefully you will get more opinions by tonight or tomorrow morning.

You need to breathe; you need to sit down & think about who is doing what. I wasn't in the room with you; so I can only go by my experiences. I don't like what you posted; how he told you worst case scenario without even knowing if you have cancer. He probably scared the cr@p out of you. Add losing your sister to the mix & you must be a basket case.

My message box is always open if you need an ear to vent to.

With my hub; I knew the lump in his neck was bad by listening to the Dr.. just to give you a time line - dermatologist 8/3 - sent hub for an ultrasound on the way home. She called 2 days later saying to find oncologist & that he needed a CAT scan. No oncologist would touch him because he wasn't diagnosed yet; I don't know why I called my daughters ENT but I did; we saw him the next week; he ordered an MRI. Did a needle biopsy in the office - from what I saw of the needle biopsy I was shocked when it came back negative. He was moving the needle in and out; many times, for a few minutes. The next week he did another needle biopsy; this time my hub's neck was really sore from the needle. We went back the next week & were told squamous cell carcinoma & that it wasn't the main source.

Wanted a PET Scan & wanted to do the scope biopsy 9/7. We were also set up with local oncology & radiation which we canceled after meeting the ENT head of Jefferson 9/8. We let them do everything. As I said, surgery 9/22.

In hindsight; I'm glad we canceled the 1st biopsy because of the 1st needle biopsy results. How did he not get a piece of cancer in the needle & what if he didn't "find" a piece of cancer in the throat? He didn't tell us exactly where he was going to look & biopsy; I just had an uneasy feeling.

His outcome so far has been good. The ENT head sees a lot of this type of cancer while local Dr doesn't.
