Adenocarcinoma Cancer

I just recently received my diagnosis of adenocarcinoma cervical cancer and am awaiting staging. I am obviously very worried because the oncologist has sent my pathology report to John Hopkins University for classification. I don't know what all this means. My GYN is telling me I will probably have a radical hysterectomy and that he has not seen this type of cancer in 14 years. Huh? What's that supposed to mean? I feel like he is breaking this horrible news to me as gently as he can. When he did the colposcopy he took three biopsies and said that because I was finished having children that he would be very aggressive with my treatment. A week after the colposcopy, he tells me I have adenocarcinom in situ and that he he always looks for this on biopsy results and that he hasn't seen it in 14 years. I had a cone biopsy last Wednesday and on Thursday received his phone call that it was invasive and that he was referring me to an oncologist. I am extremely worried about this. Can anyone help me out to decipher what's going on. Perhaps I just need to wait for the oncologist's appointment on 3/7.

There is also clear cell adenocarcinoma. I was diagnosed with Stage 3b. My cancer had spread to the lymph nodes and into the back wall of my uterus. I had 33 radiation treatments and 6 weeks of chemo. You should ask your onocologist what stage you are. Always get a second opinion. The doctor you decide you feel the most comfortable with is the doctor you will need to stay with. I had a wonderful doctor initially then he moved to Florida. I went to his associate and wasn't comfortable with him at all, so I moved on. We don't need doctors with egos we need compassionate knowledgeable doctors. I did not have the HPV Virus. Adenocarcinoma is rare. I was initially told that less than 2% of the cervical cancer cases have adenocarcinoma. I suggest you reading everything you can get your hands on, that's what I did, however, be careful when you read on the net. Make sure the sites you visit are what I call "safe" sites, according to my onocologist some sites aren't very reputable. So always ask you doctor. Good Luck
