Subject: Duodenal Adenocarcinoma With Metastasis to The Liver and Mesenterium
Date: 02/27/2006
Dear all,
My father has been diagnosed with duodenal adenocarcinoma metastatic to the liver and mesenterium. The exact medical diagnosis and steps taken are summarized by our doctor as follows:
"An explorative laparotomy on 23rd of February 2006 for an obstructive distal duodenum tumour, which was locally irresectable due to invasion of the mesenterium. Furthermore there was a liver metastasis present in segment IV.
Histopasthology shows an adenocarcinoma without any neuroendocrine differentiation."

I am trying to find as much information on treatment possibilities as I can.
Can anybody please help me out with:
* the contact data of a renowned cancer institute regarding abovementioned type of cancer ? We are already in touch with the MSKCC.
* information on general but also experimental treatment for duodenal adenocarcinoma (monoclonal antibodies, interferon)..... anything ??

We're desperate and open for all potential treatment possibilities for the moment.

Thanks in advance !
Regards, Natascha

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for your message. Unfortunately my dad passed away 2 weeks ago and there wasn't really anything they could do for him...
My dad had a gastrointestinal bypass to bypass the tumor in his duodenum so eating would be easier for him; this is probably something that could help if your husband's cancer has progessed to the point where treatment is palliative only.
Furthermore, we did order Essiac tea; an alternative medicine, and he did seem to feel better if he took it; it's no cure however. If you google Essiac you can find a lot of information on it..
I wish I could help you out more but we did absolutely everything we could for my dad given the fact that chemo and radiation were no longer possibilities.
I would contact the Memorial Sloan Kettering Center in New York to consult them and get their expertise; they can also advise you on experimental treatments available.....
I'm so sorry I can't help you out more as I know how tough this period is; all I can say is don't give up, get various medical opinions and look for experimental treatments.
All the best, Natascha

Dear Natascha,
I'm so sorry about your Dad. Thank You for taking the time to email me. I've already orded the tea for my husband. There are so few answers regarding this cancer. We will be going back to md anderson next week for another go of chemo. I'm trying to stay positve but admit it's very hard. There seems to be very little if no good news from those with this type of cancer.
Again. I'm so sad for you loss.
