Subject: Very Bloody Urine After Prostate Cancer Under Control
Date: 03/10/2006
hello, I'm new to this board but looking for some insight into my father's problem. About two years ago my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. With hormone injections and an intense course of radiation the tumour shrank and has been kept(we were told) under control. Today, he went to the doctors as unbeknown to me he has been passing lots of blood when urinating. The doctors felt around and have asked him to come back in 2 weeks to have a camera take a look around. I guess they didn't want to commit themselves to anything just yet and my dad is thinking positively but I'm concerned as could this be the cancer moving to a secondary site? and if so where has it gone? Is there anyone out there who has had or is having a similar problem or anyone who can help me try to fathom this awful thing out? Many thanks in advance.

Of course, the blood in urine condition must be checked by the doctor. It was my case to have some blood in urine [and I understand possibly in bowel] for a period of time after radiation. The radiation treatment is known to cause this internal damage.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I hope you are feeling well. Since I posted the message my dad has been diagnosed with a tumour in his bladder. He has to undergo an operation shortly and then we will know if it is malignant or not. Fingers crossed all will be ok. I wonder whether this is directly linked to the prostate cancer or if it is something to do with the intense radiotherapy. I guess we will find out soon.

My husband cimpleted forty two treatments of radiation, the first week of march, since than we came to Florida to spend three months. He just told me today that he has had bloon and blood clots in the urine ever since we got here. I am hoping this isn't serious, but plam on calling a doctor down here tomorrow to have this issue addresed.
You said your fathers blood in the urine had stopped, at what point. Hoping all is well with his tumor, and good luck. Allieree

I hope everything is going well for you and your father. My Father is 78, was diagnosed 4 years ago and treated with seed implants and EBRT. He is fine.
About a week ago the bloody urine started. He will see the dr. in a few days, but I too, am wondering what all this means.
What did the dr. say about your husband?
Keep us posted.

Hope your father is OK.  My husband is currently having problems.  Had to have a catheter inserted this week as he could not urinate at all due to the clots.  He had prostatectomy in 2002, radiation in 2005 due to psa rising, but no other problems until now.  This suddenly started.  The doctors seem to think this is because of the radiation, but I can't understand why it would become an issue since the radiation was over 2 years ago.  If you have any info or suggestions on how we might proceed or whatever, I sure would appreciate it.

I am in search of information on bleeding and blot clots after the prostatectomy also.  My dad age 69, had seeds implanted approximately 3 yrs ago and has had some problems on and off with very frequent urination.  But not until very recently did he have to go to the emergency room because of huge blood clots while trying to urinate.  They inserted a catheter and flushed him also.  Now he will see his doctor in a day or two.  We are very concerned why now and that we cannot find information on this topic of the blood clots.  Did you ever get any information for your dad or has he had any help from the doctors with this issue.  I am fearful this is some other type of cancer.  Thank you so much for any information you can give me.
