My mum had bowel cancer Feb 05, causing a blockage. It was first stage and they caught it early. They removed it and said she didn't need chemo. Since then, her CEA has been constantly elevated (16.8 last count). She is bruising very easily. Her toes are grey and her feet are purple. Nothing is showing on the scans. Now they are saying they aren't going to see her or scan her until January 07. I think its going to come back but what if it comes back before next year? How will we know? She is still not putting weight on either.

our oncologist told us the old way of thinking was if they 'got it all' you didn't need chemo and now they are 'smarter' and realize post op chemo is recommended no matter what...the length of time may just differ...but you want to make sure you catch and 'stray' or 'wondering' cancer cells. i'd get another opinion, i'd ask for an mri, a ct, a pet...anything to clear out any doubt. this is your mom's life and yours...worry shouldn't eat at you....don't stop until you are satisfied. remember, you'll never regret pursuing - just don't kick yourself that you didn't. peace to you both.

i guess all you can do, if another opinion won't yield different tests is to think positive, live everyday to the fullest and be thankful that things are ok....
best of luck
