My Brother

Hi There,


I'm hoping someone out there may be able to share some positive information regarding bile duct cancer. Although, my 38 yr old brother has not been diagnosed with it yet, his doctor feels that this is what he has. We are all in shock since we just got over him having colon cancer 5 years ago. He has a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old and has lots to live for. Can anyone please share some positive news on this? Even if some people could say a small prayer for my brother Jeff of Toronto, Ontario, Canada I would greatly appreciate it. We find out about the biopsy results on Friday, March 24th. I look to your thoughts, ideas, news.

I'm sorry to here about your brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! If you tell me his first name, I will pray for him at the cancer support group at my church. My mother passed away 7 months ago from the same kind of cancer. She fought VERY hard for the 2 years and 8 months since she found out. Keep your spirits up! There are so many wonderful doctors and nurses out there that are just waiting to help you and your family!

I am so sorry to hear about your sad news relating to your brother. I know exactly what you are going through right now as my aunt was just diagnosed with bile duct and pancreas cancer just recently. Even though there is no cure for that cancer, there is still hope to give your brother longer time to live and still be comfortable. ALways seek a second opinion, because in my experience with this the first doctor my aunt saw gave her no hope and basically tolde her all she could do is chemo and that she had 6 mos to 2 years to lve. My family was not happy with that news and went to Roswell Cancer Center in Buffalo New York (it's about 3.5-4 hours from Toronto. There we got better news. They have been consucting studies and research on this particular cancer and are about to introduce a treatment into the market pretty soon here that will give patients with this cancer longer to live and comfort in those additional years. My aunt will be starting it this week. It consists of radiation, chemo, meds and I'm not too sure what else, but they have had several cases of people living a few years longer while on this treatment. Please consider. It may be the only hope your family has to your brother living longer and still be in comfort.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about your brother. My mother just had the Whipple operation last wednesday and is now recovering in the hospital. When she went in, we wern't sure if we were dealing with Pancreatic cancer or Bile duct cancer, so believe it or not, we were acutally relieved to hear (today) it was Bile Duct cancer.... I guess I'm telling you this because after her operation the surgeon told us that there's a much higher chance of survival if the cancer was in her Bile Duct. We still don't really know what to expect since we're learning as we go & we have a lot of questions still unanswered. The recovery from her operation is still pretty intense but she's kicking butt and healing really well....and she's 57. She had her age and health going in and I think that helped with her fast healing. Your brother is only 38...so he has youth on his side.
I'll post more about my mom as we get more info.

Meanwhile, I'll be sending positive thoughts your way...since you're not that far...I live in Toronto too.

Hello, My Name is Terry and My husband had the Whipple Procedure on May 5th 2006. He also was fortunate the Tuma was isolated. My question is he is having a lot od abdominal cramps and trouble sleeping at nite. We have talked to the Dr. and they are saying muscle spasms. I am curious to see how u are doing.

I hope your husband is doing as well as my mom seems to be doing. But yes, she complains about stomach cramps too. Her doctor assured her it was normal and that she would probably experience them for at least a year. Did your husband have to follow up his procedure with any kind of chemo?

Hello Roberta, Thank you for answering me. No, my husband has had no Chemo. Other than the very bad cramps and trouble sleeping he is ok. Its getting frustrating. The minute he lies down in bed at nite and he starts with the bad cramps. I am glad to hear Mom is doing well. His eating is not the best but he is keeping it down.

Roberta, Tell me is your Mom on any medications for her cramps. Does she get a lot of gas?

Hi,

No she's not on any kind of medication and yes, she does get gas. I know her cramps get more painful if she eats too much.
