Subject: Surviving!

Hi, Kristina...I have been sparring with cancer since Oct 2001 now...I am optimistic about how far the scientists and doctors have come in treating it...My cervical cancer has matastasized twice now...In my abdomen, wrapping around the small bowel so tight that eventually, I couldn't even keep water down, let alone Boost or chicken broth..Real food was out of the question for 20 months!! One thing that tumor did hold back was a capsule endoscopy (camera) and my surgeon had to go in and remove it,cancer AND the camera, which in turn saved my life.It also showed up on my liver as two spots in the same lobe, and in my back, around the lymph nodes. I am currently having chemo in Kentucky, and will be going to Nashville next week for RFA treatment to my liver...(I'm excited about this one!) Hang in there, and write if you want to..My email is --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, email address removed. hi toni my name is amanda and i have cervical cancer too. the only thing to be expecting next is ways to treat it and there is so many ways to treat it. there is laser treatments meds and so one call your dr and ask him what he thinks is the best way to treat it. to be honest with you i dont know if it can spread to the lungs but you are not the only one that is wondering that. ask your dr to send you some info on cervical cancer. there really isnt any syptoms for cervical cancer. i have had it for almost a year now and i am haveing my 3rd child and i still have cervical cancer and it has never been treated. dont worry everything will be fine. talk to your dr. but just remember that i will pray for you and keep you in my thought.

Try not to panic. I know that's easier said than done, however.

Since you have small cell cervical cancer, you can probably expect chemotherapy, radiation and perhaps surgery (depending on your stage).

I was diagnosed with it, too, and have had chemo and radiation (internal and external). I'm currently in remission.

My personal philosophy is "Expect the worst, but hope for the best." This is a rare and aggressive cancer, but it can be fought. The treatment is very difficult, but somehow people pull through.

Best wishes. If you have any more questions, I'm here.

How long have you been in remission? Yes I am early stages 1b. And all test have come back nothing has spread. My surgery is scheduled for may 18th tomorrow. I have a good feeling since still confined to one area that they will get it all. But the doctors scare me saying well etc etc. I don't even want to go there.
I would love to converse with you more as a support group for this is not available. Can we email perhaps etc. Thank you for you encouragement It really helps.

Subject: It's Very Good You Are in an Early Stage

Hi there. I've been in remission since January. I have more scans coming up on June 19, so my fingers are crossed that I'll still be free of cancer.

It is very encouraging that you are in the early stages. I wasn't--I was in stage 3B with a 9 cm tumor. SO if they can get rid of my cancer at that stage, then they can do the same for you!

I would be happy to speak with you about all I know. I've been going through this for over a year now.

How did your surgery go?

Hi Meridith,

You are in my prayers but I am sure you will be fine. They have really come a long way with treatments. My surgery went well and thank god it did not spread to my limphnoids or surrounding areas. But you know the doctors, yes they are hopeful but since this is so rare they can't give me numbers or cureability rates etc. I am hopeing since it did not spread etc that with chemo I will recover and be cured from this. I am not looking forward to getting sick the chmo starts Monday. How was it for you. I assume we will be doing the same. Cisplatnum excuse my spelling but you might recodnize the name.
Please post how your test came out. I will say a prayer for you tonight.

God Bless

You have a very good chance of actually being cured considering the cancer was not in your lymph nodes! In my research, I've found cases of cured patients with this cancer and also long-term survivors. They are always learning about how to better treat it.

You will probably be getting etoposide along with the cisplatin. You might have a little nausea and vomiting, but they have lots of medicines to control those symptoms. Zofran and Emend are two you should ask your doctor about. You will probably be quite tired (either from the meds or chemo, or both). The only long term side effect from the treatment that I've had is neuropathy--pain and numbness in the legs, feet and hands, and this is caused by cisplatin. But not every one gets this side effect, but if you are worried about it, you could ask your doctor to maybe think about using Carboplatin, which has shown to be just as effective as Cisplatin, but is much less likely to cause neuropathy.

Do you know what your chemo schedule is yet? How many days and how many cycles?

Also, may I ask how old you are? In my research, I've seen that most of the people who get this type of cervical cancer tend to be quite young--20's and 30's.

Thanks for praying for me, and I will post the results of my scans when I get them

Hi Meridith,

Thank you for the encouragement, I am hopeful to be cured,I just can't believe there is not much info on this. And everything I read on line is so negetive so I have decided to stay away from the internet for now. I have good days and bad, as im sure your no stranger to that. I start Chemo on Monday and will do 3 days in a row once every three weeks for 4 treatments.I get the port a cath put in in the morning (Friday 16th).The tumor board is split if I need raidiation, so I have a few months to decide, while my oncologist does more research around the world. But I think I will go for it.So you really think good chance to beat this at my stage ha? I feel the same for you, my doc has a lady who is 7 years out and it did spread to the lymph noids. So we have a lot to be positive about.Tell me how sick will I get on this Chemo? I guess I will lose my hair they say. Time to shop for wigs.(Blond maybe lol) Ok I will end this novel, God bless and keep me posted please. I look forward to your posts.

God Bless and good health
