my Dad Has Decided to End His Fight With Aml...

My father was diagnosed with AML on May 18, 2005 and after a year of clinical trials, chemo treatments, blood infusions,etc...he has decided he's fed-up. I've been praying for a miracle everyday since his diagnosis and it looks as though God has different plans for him as we were told 2 days ago that his last chemo didn't do any good and he has 50% (leukemia)blasts in his bone marrow and they give him a 3-4 week prognosis. While we've had a year to prepare our hearts, it's so hard letting go. My main question is: What should we (my 2 sisters, brother and I) look for/expect in the coming days/weeks? Meanwhile, I have a call into our doctor (at MD Anderson in Houston) to get his info about what we're up against. Any insight you can give us...we'd very much appreciate. Shelby (Kansas)

Hello Shelby, My mom was diagnosed last May 20, 2005 with AML. She lost her battle just 2 1/2 weeks later. IT is hard letting go, today my mom would have been 74. Mom fought but her body was too weak and we had to let go but at least she didn't suffer that we could see. Hopefully the doctors told you what to expect. My brother, sister and I still have emotional days. My sister and I are nurses, I felt a lot of sadness inside in losing my mom, my best friend. We want them forever at least no pain was seen in my mom those final days & hours. Be there and continue to talk to Dad, hearing is the last thing that goes. Let him know how much you love him as I am sure you have already! YOu are welcome to email me.
