A Pap smear will NOT detect ovarian cancer. And a pelvic or
abdominal exam may not either. Many times ovarian cancer
cannot be manually felt. As the previous posts suggest, you
need a CA 125 test, and an ultrasound - preferably, a
transvaginal ultrasound. Please do not think you are in the
clear just because you had a pap smear and exam - about 80%
of the time, doctors miss this cancer, and lull patients into a
false sense of security. The CA 125 test is not a perfect test,
but at least it will be one more tool in the diagnosis. It is just a
simple blood test, and isn't real expensive. Please, if you value
your life, get it done. The bloating and cramping are two
symptoms of ovarian cancer. And usually by the time you get
symptoms, you are already advanced stage. So don't mess
around with this. I am not trying to scare you, but possibly save
your life.
