My dad has RRC and now the tumors are popping up on his skin everywhere he has about 9 of them now and two are bad and will likely need radiation as they are open and ulcerated. Just wondering does anyone else have this too? My dad is 3 years now and just started on Votrient only on it for two weeks now. Hope it starts to work so far they are popping up as we speak.

Just saw your post and wondering where your dad's tumors were originally?  My husband had his left kidney removed 2 years ago and then 9 months ago tumors were found in his lungs and lymph nodes.  Recently (he is in a clinical trial - combined Avastin and Torisel), a small lump has appeared under the skin on his right side (less than 1 inch long) - it hasn't broken the skin and actually isn't ON the skin, but under it.  Does this sound like what your dad is experiencing at all?  Good luck

He has renal cell cancer...it was 3 years ago this week.. He had his kidney removed and it was a grade3 stage one,  6 months latter it was in his clavicle and ribs, radiation was given and torisel was started. He shortly went into kidney failure from the torisel and almost died only 3% of his kidney was working went on dialysis for 4 months and a his kidney got better. Doctors say it was amazing that he recovered and got off or dialysis. Then they did a scan and he had too numberous tumors to count in his lungs. Then they started Sutent and it worked and shrunk all the lung tumors. Then side effects got too bad for dad and they put him on Avastin only and did a scan in January of this year and that is when the skin noduals started to appear and he had spread in his arm and the skin lessions. Then they put him back on Sutent and radiaion to his arm and the noduals started to shrink, side effects got to tough again and then tried everyother day with sutent. Tumors started to grow again on skin and more of them. Avastin alone is not usually the regimin they where just hoping it would work. We have no clue as his doctors kind of stink and that is a whole nother story and now he is on Votrient and it is three weeks and it is not getting better and now he has back pain for the last two weeks. I hope it is not in his spine now. The doctors are not ordering any exames(CT, MRI or Pets) to see what is going on internally with dad as of last January so we are in the dark for 9 months.

Your husand may have a skin lession as let the doctor know as it maybe that this trail may not be working on him. They usually pull patients off if there is activity of new cancer growth. I sure hope that this is not the case, but do not give up hope as there are other drugs to try.

Good luch and prayers for you and your hubby.

Thank you so much for your reply.  It sounds so difficult and such a long battle.  We're not crazy about Frank's onc, but he is well respected and a RCC specialist - there aren't that many to choose from.  My husband is treated at Vanderbilt in Nashville.  What hospital does your dad go to?

God bless.  Good luck

I wish you all the luck and stay positive because so many do well with some trails and others ajents...Hope is a strong part of the game.

I will say a prayer for you and your husband and keep me posted as what that thing is.
