My 80-year old father (who's in otherwise good health) has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. I would like to talk to anyone who has esophageal cancer and find what treatments have been successful. I am also interested in talking with anyone who has had the photodynamic or hyperthermia therapy offered at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Iam a 45 year old stage III Esophageal Cancer survivor. I will celebrate two years of being cancer free on May 20th. I did not go to Cancer Treatment Center of America and did not have the two types of treatment you mention. I did radiation, chemotherapy and surgery then had additional chemo after the surgery. I had the Ivor-Lewis surgical procedure. I had most of my stomach and esophagus removed and then the esophagus was pulled up and connected to the remaining esophagus. My treatment was at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to answer.

I had stage 3 EC. If it is in a tumor form and has not spread I recommend immediate surgery to remove the tumor.
I had my surgery done in Arizona by a excellent surgeon. One year later I am cancer free.

My husband had stage 3 EC with chemo and radiation.  Docs said he is now cancer free since February 2007 but they still want to do removal of esophagus.  Just wanted to ask what your experience has been and your quality of life.  He is very unhappy with this suggestion as his life is back to normal and he is very concerned about surgical complications.

Thanks.
