Options And Tips For Small Cell Lung Cancer?

My mother was just diagnosed with small cell lung cancer that has already gone into her liver, spine and ribs. She is 57 years old and determined to fight this. The doctors have told us there is no cure and with out chemo she would only have about 3 months to live, and with chemo 60 to 80% of people don't make it past a year. Is there herbs and or supplements she should take to keep her blood count in check and to help with the other side effects of chemo? Are there any other options we should look into? Please help any information is better than none.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. My mother was diagnosed December 1990. She had SCLC, extensive stage. Her bone marrow was also involved. She was put on a research study and was given several months more than she was expected to have. She passed away 10 days prior to the 1-year anniversary of her diagnoses. Small Cell Lung Cancer is non-curable. If there is a research study your mother could be a part of then perhaps she would be given a better quality of life for her remaining time. My mother's last summer was very enjoyable for her. She was able to do things she wanted to do and was not sick from treatments and such. I pray for you and your mother. Be there for her and help her in anyway she asks. I am so thankful for the time we had together.

First of all, never give up hope!!! There are many things that can still be done! Return to the message board at this site and go through the recent messages and replies no matter what cancer is being discussed. You will find some of the best and the most honest answers to be found anywhere. I have found in the messages more specific answers to questions than in other places, i.e., names of specific protocols, books on nutrition, sites to check out, diets to try, new alternative supplements, and most of all the information has been tried and the responses are honest.

I am caring for a friend with lung cancer, stage 4. We never stop checking the message board and taking advantage of every bit of information we can get. My Grandma was diagnosed with small cell extensive lung cancer in September. They told us she had weeks to live and she is still hanging in there!! We contacted the Cancer Center Treatment Centers right after she was diagnosed and have followed the nutrition and supplements that they have recommended. The bottom line is God is the one in control and he decides when it is our time to go. I will pray for your mother, and remember don't give up hope!

My Husband was diagnosed with the same Dec. of 1999. They also only gave him 3 to 6 mos. to live. He went thru Chemo & Radiation. The Tumor is still there, but has not grown or decreased. The Drs. have no idea how long your Mom has. Nobody but God knows when you leave this Earth. My Husband takes Coenzyme Q10, Coenzyme A and a Multi Vitamin. There are others that you can take that would help the immune system and blood cells. However, my Husband won't take them. Giving your Mother hope & lots of love will help her lots.
