I am 45 years old recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, my PSA 11.4 and my gleason a 4+5=9. Bone scans and MRIs negative. At my age I can agree with my physician on treatment he suggests. A friend of mine was diagnose nearly ten years ago and has treated his disease with prostasol, vitamins and lifestyle changes successfully. Doctors are in the 'business' of treating disease not curing disease, what would they do? It is my belief that there are other alternatives other than what the AMA, FDA and other orginazations have to offer, it used to be common belief to bleed people to treat disease. Having read some of the posts I am curious to hear from others, pro and con, on the subject of alternative treatments and more specifically prostasol. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Despite problems, the US medical system is still the best in the world. Treatment standards are decided by years of experience and trials. Still, the final choice is always up to the patient. If it were me, I would stick with traditional medicine. Their track record is better.
You didnt say what your doc recomended, but it most likely included a choice between RP and RT. At you age, I would be agressive. RP is the only cure for prostate cancer and since it sounds like you have localized disease, it should be considered.
Best wishes.

The US is in fact at the BOTTOM of the list with regard to health statistics.

For information about alternative cures that work, visit cancertutor.com. I have a great deal of personal experience with this, though I do not sell anything, just distribute information. So far I have seen 100% success with even terminal cancers. It's not my success. I just give people information and they cure themselves. So far, it has been successful every time.

I had Gleason 4+3=7, RP June 2004 was unsuccessful---positive margin, Both SV's and Lymph node involved, too. PSA has been rising fast since RP---doubling nearly monthly.

In answer to previous message writer, I tried Prostasol and although it did reverse the rising PSA I developed blood clots (dangerous side effect) So I went off of the Prostasol, and PSA began rising fast again, so I decided to try Prostasol once again---but this time at less than half my previous dose in order to "avoid" more blood clots. Unfortunately, I got a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis--more serious than a Superficial Blood Clot) and PE's (Pulmonary Embolisms) in BOTH Lungs. So now I'm back to "square 1" despite trying both RP and Prostasol.

Michael, I must disagree that the US has the best healthcare in the world. For just one example, The Netherlands has been successfully using a diagnostic CT Scan called "Combidex" which the US's FDA still hasn't approved for use here. Many top line PCa docs here in the US swear by this method of detecting metastases---but we still have to go to the Netherlands to avail ourselves of it. (So much for our top status in medicine).
Also, our US medical system leaves a lot of people behind--those who don't have medical insurance are in real trouble obtaining as good a quality medical care as those who are wealthy and/or have health insurance. A country which allows MILLIONS of its citizens to be UNinsured with NO safety net is NOT a leader in healthcare and shows little or no compassion for its poor.

I have seen countless patients elect to try "natural therapy" when diagnosed with a treatable cancer only to return at a point when the disease has spread and advanced to the point where it cannot be effectively treated. Are there cures with "natural therapy"? I am sure there are, as there is with traditional medicine. And there are failures with both. In the end it is the patients choice.
Our healthcare in the US? Over 50% of the worlds population has almost NO access to modern health care. In many countries which do have healthcare , its access it strictly limited. The government will let you know if you are a candidate for treatment. Its not up to you. I have rarely seen any person denined treatment where I live. It doesnt matter if you have insurance or not, you get treated.
If I get to pick, I'll stay here.

I am 72 have had two cryoablation procedures, and so far, am still waiting for some good news. initially, PSA was 5.1, biopsy positive. Tried cryo, and after 9 months, had a PSA of 8, with a following biopsy of a gleason of 8.So, another cryo procedure. After 1 month, PSA was 28 ...yes 28, Dr. said it was an anomaly, and we should wait another 3 months. Another month to go. Question? Has anyone had a successful cryo precedure? is my physician capable? I just keep hoping!!
