Hello... I have a friend in Austin, TX, who has had recurring episodes of pneumonia over the past couple of years. Normal treatments for these bouts of pneumonia have resulted in more or less a full recovery. However, this last time his white cell count continues to remain very high - prompting his doctor to suspect some form of leukemia. A biopsy was done and I believe that the results were positive for AML. Is the pneumonia related or triggered or affected in anyway by his AML condition? Is a viral form of bone marrow cancer producing symptoms like AML and making him susceptible to the pneumonia episodes? He also has had sleep apnia for some time which I believe may also have caused saliva accumulation in the lungs (his airway is open during apnia rest phase and not obstructed) Maybe they are not related, but I just wonder if anyone has any experience or history with anyone with two such serious conditions at the same time like my friend has had.
