Can someone please answer a question for me, i would appreciate it very much. HOW ACCURATE IS A CT SCAN OF THE CHEST WITHOUT CONTRAST?

To make a very very long story short, I've had shortness of breath and weezing, but am going through an emotional battle and heartship as well, but because of that I've been smoking every chance I get when I really should not be, because 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a mild case of emphezemia. I'm a 46 year old woman. So I told my primary care doctor and first he sent me for a chest xray, that was negative, except it showed an old rib fracture. Then I came down with a cold and was coughing when phelgm came up a couple of times I spit it out just to make sure it was clear. Well the one time I spit it out to my surprise it was very bloody, a second time blood streaked, so a month ago I told my primary care doctor and he sent me for a CT SCAN OF THE CHEST (BUT I'M JUST SURPRISED HE ORDERED IT WITHOUT CONTRAST), IT CAME BACK NEGATIVE EVEN FOR EMPHEZYMIA, HOW ACCURATE IS THIS TEST THE CHEST XRAY NEGATIVE AND THE CT SCAN NEGATIVE, BUT LIKE I SAID THE CT SCAN WAS WITHOUT CONTRAST. I have two daughters that are not living with me due to a domestic violence situation and I'm extremely depressed and dont enjoy smoking but do bc of what I'm going through alone, and don't know what to do, as they want to live with him because his father owns the house I have an apt I'm on disability live alone, hes on disability too but he has a father of means to supply a free house and life for all his kids, so my kids wont come with me so this is why I keep smoking. But if I want to be there for my girls I'm not gonna be if I die, so I ordered the electronic cigarette. BUT ALL THAT ASIDE CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW ACCURATE THIS TEST IS WHEN IT IS DONE WITHOUT CONTRAST, PLEASE? THANKS IN ADVANCE, LISA BTW U CAN EMAIL ME AT cangemiprincess@aol.com

even without contrast it would have shown a mass.  Contrast may help the radiologist but it does have risks including renal damage and allergic reactions.  Do you cough when you dont have a cold?  I would also ask your doc where the blood is coming from and ask about getting on an anti depressant.
