Subject: Seeding Options- is Theraseed The Only Right Choice?
Date: 05/15/2006
I am trying to help ease my father's confusion with what he is hearing or not hearing concerning his treatment options. He asked his MD about Theraseed implants and did not get a favorable response as to it's superiority over iodine seeds. The doctor actually stated he was not informed enough to comment) Should he feel compelled to go w/ Palladium 103 based on their literature (Theraseed) or are the outcomes equal?? If they are better, why aren't they being used across the board by all physicians??

I have discussed seeding with Cesium 131 with my treating Urologist and got a similar response. He referred me to the local Radiation clinic (which does not use seeds. It is apparent to me that local Mds are not up to speed on the newer less invasive techniques. They are more apt to refer you locally. However, there are clinics that are using seeding. Suggest go online--check Mayo clinic--they have a seeding facility in Arizona as well as other places. At least your MD wwas honest about it. Good luck--research, research etc.

Here is a site which compares some of the different treatment options and even includes some references. RT is probably as good as RP and may have fewer side effects although incontinence and impotence still occur. In the end its a personal decision.
Best wishes.

Your message was cut off. I was wondering did you go ahead with the proton treatment and how was the experience?

Hello ~ I came across this site while looking up the Theraseed info and site.  I have been looking up cancer info for some time now. Several family members have died of different forms of it and some are survivors. Also some friends have passed from cancer or are dealing with it presently. I have come across some info that any of you on the list may want to know about.  One is the book "How to Fight Cancer and Win" with special interest on the three chapters on Fats, specifically Dr Johanna Budwig's Flaxseed Oil and Lowfat Cottage Cheese therapy. There is also a book entitled "How to Fight Prostate Cancer and Win" that I am ordering for a friend.  There is also an amazingly comprehensive and extensively researched book by Roger Mason called "The Natural Prostate Cure".  These are must reads for alternative options to surgery.  One thing that I was told and have read repeatedly is that we should all, especially those with cancer, Do cleanses, of parasites and toxins, and then cleanse kidneys and do a Liver/gallbladder flush to help the filters of the body regain health and do their optimal jobs to help us recover. Hope all goes well with all of you.

I heard that Proxcelan was actually better, because it uses the isotope cesium 131 which has a shorter half-life than palladium or iodine.  There's a company in Washington that makes it, it's called IsoRay.  I think the web address for it is www.proxcelan.com.  Anyway, the shorter half life is better, supposedly, because of the decreased radiation exposure to healthy tissue (and people close to the recipient).

Hope this helps.
