Anyone had similar? The trend of the level is what is important not the reading - But my partners reading has gone from 200 to 400 to 1900 in 2 months ! Obviously spreading fast ??

My sister was diagnosed in January with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Cancer in her pancreas, liver, lungs, bladder, and nodes. Her CA19-9 levels were ( sorry about spelling with chemo names) (chemo started with Gemzar and Tarceva)60 on 2-06-10, 88 on 2-23-10, 96 on 3-2-10, 82 on 3-12-10, 77 on 3-19-10, 79 on 3-26-10, 61 on 4-9-10, 69 on 4-15-10, 62 on 5-11-10, 63 on 6-9-10, 78 on 7-7-10, 76 on 7-16-10, 123 on 8-4-10(changed chemo to Gemzar and Oxali) 192 on 8-21-10, 379 on 9-18-10 (changed chemo to Gemzar and Abraxane) 293 on 10-16-10, 324 on 10-27-10, 460 on 11-2-10, 370 on 11-16-10, 309 on 11-24-10. Now the doctor has said this is the last chemo combination to try Gemzar, Copecit, and Tarceva...so really I do not understand levels at all as her levels seem low to get such devastating feedback from the doctor.

GTX is what they are taking Usually as CA 19-9 number gos up cancer is spreeding as they come down it is shrinking (not dying) just not growing
CA19-9 for normal is below 37
My husbands CA 19-9 went from 1975 to 56 now since July 1 2010 so we are hopeful but still has stage IV with possible Mets in liver (they think not sure yet)
Read Anti Cancer Book it really Help us and we think helped him feel pretty good We follow it

Hi , Thanks for the info. Yes - we have trouble understanding the CA levels. I think the basic info is that Pancreas cancer is a real bastard and the cancer can grow faster than the chemo can kill. Also while on chemo the bodys immune system is down which further helps the cancer to multiply and "takeover "healthy cells. Look up body alkilinity and cancer.
Best of luck and good wishes
