Many melanoma patients who have their lesion removed by surgery are then lost to follow up. This can be deadly. For as little as stage 1B disease a chest x ray and CT scans should be done annually. 1B disease is <1 mm thick with ulceration or Clark level 4,5 OR >1 mm thick. The goal is to catch any relapse very early. Once melanoma becomes metastatic, its too late. Be aware, be informed and demand checkups.
