My dad has finished his 3rd round of chemo and is experiencing severe itching especially on his legs. He scrathes it a lot to the point of leaving blood marks on his legs. We make him wear mostly cotton clothes to decrease the iritation and put a baby oil on his skin but it does not seem to be helping. Has anyone out there experienced something similar when taking chemo? If so, can you please let me know how you treated it?
PS: My dad has GBM4.

Thanks so much!
Loving daughter

Is he on steroids or taking the seizure med Dilantin?

I've heard of people getting rashes from both os those.

What kind of detergent are you using on his clothes? I know that I've had to switch to detergent and softner that is dye free.

Yes, my dad is on dexamethazon. He has been taking it since January of this year. However, he is on a pretty low dose right now, taking 2-1-0 pills every day. I just wonder if it eventually goes away. I will tell my mom to try to change detergent as well as per Brainy_chick's suggestion.

It is so wonderfull to know that you come to this site and people are willing to share their experience/advice - one does not feel so alone... and I thank you for that!

Just wondering and I want to put my 2 cents in on this topic, but could the skin rashes be a sign that the tumor is growing and reached a new area of the brain? Just 2 weeks before my mother-in-law was diagnosed with GBM last January, she broke out into a full body rash and it dissappeared only a bit by the time the GMB diagnosis was made a short time later.

Hi,

I had very bad itching and rashes after surgery, so I investigated and requested my Neuro Oncologist to switch me to Kepra. He didn't want to, but I pushed and haven't had a rash since.
