Long-term Recurrent Cervical Cancer Survivors?

Hi all I am new to this board. I was first diagnosed with Stage Ib cervical cancer in 2003. I had 30 external radiation treatments, 6 brachtherapy treatments, and 6 weeks of cisplatin. I also had an ooferectomy (they left in my uterus to do the brachytherapy despite the fact that it had cancer). In September 2005, I had a routine chest xray and they found 3 tumors in three different lobes. I also have medistinal involvement, and they think the liver is also involved. In September, the doctors gave me a few months to a year to live. I am still fighting but having difficulty with nutrition. Are there any long-term survivors? I'm frightened. I am doing everything I can to better my odds. I would like to find just one person who has beat the odds. I'm looking for a little inspiration. Please help. Thank you, Moana

My daughter has small cell cervical cancer. Stage 3B. She was diagnoised in March of 2005. Her odds were not good. Poor prognosis is all we heard. In January 2006, her CT and PET scans showed her in remission. She goes this morning for new scans. She knows that small cell comes back most of the time. She is scared. So am I. I don't think there is anything I can do about being scared, but I am trying to be brave and hopefull. My advice to her and you is do whatever it takes to get through it. Talk to loved ones, because sharing helps. Being held and comforted helps. If screaming helps, then do it. Crying is normal and relieves pressure. Personally, I pray, along with all the above and find some comfort. God Bless you and yours.

Hello Moana, I was diagnosed 21 years ago with class IB cervical cancer and was treated with a Wertheim hysterectomy and 30 radiation treatments.  I developed lymphedema of both legs following this but otherwise did well until almost six years later when I had a distant spread of the cervical cancer discovered when an enlarged lymph node was found in the supraclavicular (collar bone) area.  After that I had a year of chemotherapy consisting of Cisplatin, Ifosfamide and Bleomycin.  I'm here to tell you that I am now  14 years into my second remission.  Stay hopeful.  No cancer diagnosis is a death sentence.  Be vigilant and your own best advocate, keeping yourself fully informed and positive, while following your oncologist's recommendations.  I don't know your spiritual orientation, but I am a Christian and, knowing that I was doing everything humanly possible to help myself by following the medical advice of good physicians, I trusted God for the outcome.  I am most fortunate and wish the same for you.  Please keep in touch.  I send you hugs and best wishes, Pat
