I would try an alternative treatment, diet, supplements and life style changes. That is how I combat my advanced prostate cancer. My approach has been successful for almost 5 years.

Personally I would never do hormone therapy again. It is an awful way to live. I would love to chemically castrate these doctors with it so they can see how awful your quality of life becomes. I had one 3 month Lupron injection it was the worse 6 months of my life. I had unusual side effects. The good news is there are other options.

Should be no problem stopping HT. but some time your body testosterone levels may remain where they are now, for a while.  HT turns off the glands that produce testosterone. so they may take a while to get going again, but on some patients they no longer work at all. You can control your cancer like a lot of us here do. by diet.   I have been on a cancer controling diet since 2008 all IK do is I dont have  sugary foods or any  milk products.  and sugarless veg juice  drinks first thing every morning. but   though the day  I have soy milk in my cups of green/pepara tea.  I also take about 80mg of trinovin a day its keeped my PSA down.  vitamins  C, D3  and co ten enzime.  all helps. Ray

I am one month behind my Zoladex shot,and I just did my blood test;

The PSA test was up 0.12 from 4 months ago.

Not sure what to do  !

So,Trinovin is the main thing you need? right?

Dear Ray,

I like the way that you said,"no problem stopping HT."

I haven't had the shot yet.  but I am still taking the 50 mg casodex.

If I stop HT all together,my PSA will go up,What should I do?

Dear Ray,

Do you still check your PSA from time to time?

Thank you kindly.

Now is two months behind my hormone shot,my rectum started to bleed(like before treatments).

Should I just go get my hormone shot,or wait til next month(every 3  months)for my psa test?

Or just go get the psa test now?

Here is what i do not understand... Why can't men with advanced prostate cancer have surgery?? Particularly when the cancer has only spread to the bone? Why castrate with medicine for x amount of time. Isn't more expensive  and not to mention quality of life... I have noticed that in other countries surgery is an option for stage 3-4 patients, but it is almost unheard of in the US.

How do you define "advanced" prostate cancer?  The staging # alone?  Are you factoring in the Gleason score?

My husband's Gleason was high (9) when he was dx'd at the age of 49 and his oncological team deemed a radical prostatectomy as the most aggressive treatment.  He had the surgery and is PSA undetectable as of today (surgery/August 2002).  He sought a variety of opinions and more than one urologist suggested the surgery with his Gleason too high to consider seed implants.
