Hi Joann

The nanoknife was becuase the whipple was not an option.

We went to StonyBrook on Long Island Sound but were also preparing to go to Dr. Martin in KY.  Ours was in May along with at least three other people on this site  at the same time. The irony is that we just found out that the whipple is now an option. Trust me, it's a long three year story. We had a "failed whipple"  in 08 .so my advice to anyone would be don't always believe if it's "inoperable" that it's always that way. We don't know why no-one caught the change we were just told , after asking what happened, "that once inoperable always inoperable". We liked this doctor so we're not sure where we go from here. We keep in touch with Hopkins and Farber  and the question came up as to wether we will be doing the whipple again. Don't know.

Never give up hope!!!!!!! The whipple option is  now available but we would still have done the Nanoknife!!!!! The window for the Nanoknife is small and it was (we thought) our best option. When making the nanoknife decision we asked our doctor if we could have the whipple would he recommend it and he said yes. Something has to change in this type of cancer and my husband was willing to be one who helps. I don't know your circumstances but we have always been told that the whipple is the way to go.

I hope I have not confused you. Right now we are at the hospital getting a scan to see what's up so we will have more info by Friday.

Good luck!
Pat

Hi.  My husband has an appointment to see Dr. Martin in Louisville on November 7.  Has anyone heard anything else about cancer survivors who used the Nanoknife?  Thanks!

Hi Gretchen72404

My husband just had the Nanoknife at StoneyBrook with Dr. Watkins. We're at the six month past level, so far everything is O.K.  Dr. Martin at Louisville was also a choice and we were all set to go but  Dr Watkins is also recognized as the other expert in this procedure and is closer to home for us. We would highly recommend StonyBrook. My husband had an "open" Nanoknife because of a "metal" stent. There are three other people on this forum who have had the Nanoknife and one was by Dr. Martin in Louisville.

Hi, still looking for any and all information on succesful NanoKnife procedure for inoperable tumor on head of pancreas. Found many stories back to March and Sept. 2010 but no "survival" stories. Centers who performed the NanoKnife do not broadcaast long tern effects or status of those who had NanoKnife. This is a big decision to make but I cannot find any real people who have survived more than 3 months. Anybody know anything about Nanoknife???? Options now are medical marijuana, curcurmin, GTX, Folfirinox, Hedgehog, Gemzar/Abraxane so NanoKnife seems most promising but not supported really anywhere. Appreciate info on any of these options. Thanks- Pat

I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in October of 2009 that had metastazied to my liver with twelve tumors. My cancer was inoperable, but I discovered Dr. Raj Narayanan from UM Sylvester and he did the Nanoknife procedure on my liver which made it possible for me to have surgery. I had the Whipple procedure and eighty percent of my liver taken out. I am now cancer free.

I was in the first dozen people to ever receive the NanoKnife and I would highly recommend it. It saved my life! Dr. Raj Narayanan teaches this procedure all over the world and in my opinion he is the best.

I saw him a few weeks ago and he was telling me that they now are using it for lung and pancreas; I was so excited to hear that considering they were only using it on liver when I had my procedure.

Hi. I do know 2 people from the "chemo bar" that had the nanoknife. Dr. Robert C. Martin from Louisville KY did the proceders. A woman in her early 40's had it done in 12-10. Her last c'scan is showing spots on her liver, biopsy tomorrow... A 70 year old man had the nano 3 months ago, he's still recovering. I went to KY on 9-21-11 and Dr. Martin removed my spleen and gallbladder. I may go back in 8-10 months to have the nano to remove the pc. I will be waiting and watching to see how 'wonderful" this nanoknife is. What I know for sure is the love of God and His healing powers. He is what has brought me through this crazy pc journey. God's blessings to you.

Your story is very inspiring!  Did your doctor do open surgery when he did the Nanoknife?  Did you have trouble getting your health insurance company to pay for the Nanoknife.  Good luck and I hope you remain healthy!

Hi.  Thank you for the information about the other patients who had the Nanoknife procedure.  I love to know how patients do after the procedure.  My husband is having his November 9. Why did they wait 8 -10 months on yours?

Hi. Let me clarify, my football sized spleen was messing with my blood counts and I could not receive chemo many times because of low white blood cells and low platelets and I also had gallstones. So, Dr. Martin did surgery ( not nano ) to remove the spleen and gallbladder. This will gain me more time, he said. It would have been too dangerous and tramatic on my body to remove the pc at the same time. S0, I will receive chemo for the next 8-10 months and shrink the pc some more. Than I'll have a ct with Dr, Martin and then concider the nanoknife to remove the pancreas. Peace.
