Thanks to everyone for all the helpful posts.  I picked up some literature today and had time to scan it briefly, but will read it more thoroughly over the weekend as I see an oncologist Monday. At least i kind of understand the 3 basic approaches to treatments.

My biggest worry is that my nephrectomy was only 5 months ago and now its already in the lung. Definately going to try and ask if maybe it was 'overlooked' before.  If not, the quickness or its return doesnt sound good.

And thats a very good point that was made about survival rates being not up to date- i am definately sharing that point with my grown children who have heard the same 5% and are scared.

I will definately check this board daily and hope to continue to interact with the wonderful people who have helped me so much so far.

TANJAZ:

RCC has the tendency to spread; that's its nature.  Don't be surprised at this development.  It does something; we counter.  That's where we are.

Lung mets is not good news, but among the places one usually has RCC mets, the literature suggests lung mets have the most optimistic history.

Stay optimistic and strong.  We're in this for an extended time.  This is not over.

Dear Tanjaz, I also have tumors in my lungs, however, fortunately for me they are too small ( 2mm, 3mm and 8mm) to do anything at this time. Depending on how many tumors you have and their sizes I would look into Interventional Cryoablation( freezing of the tumor) or Radiofrequency Ablation( heating up the tumor) These procedures are done by an Interventional Radiologist and they do NOT involve surgery. You usually go home the same day. Once my tumor gets to 1cm then I will be having one of the above procedures. My Interventional Radiologist will determine which procedure is the best for me. The results are EXCELLENT.

Good luck.

Mark

Hello

Wish I wasnt here, but will be glad for any friends that I can make and any knowledge that can be gained.

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer last August and had a nephrectomy in September.  Thought all was well, no signs of spreading. But after a pet scan, I was told today that I have cancerous tumors in my lung or maybe lungs, so shaken that i cant remember exactly. Also cancerous tumors in the muscles around the lungs.

I believe that i was misdiagnosed and treated for tuberculosis about 6 years ago, they fed me a huge amount of pills, like 40 pills per day for a few weeks.  Wondering if this could have caused cancer? There is not really any trace of it in my family? Maybe not who knows.

Anyway, if anyone has experience with kidney cancer that spreads to the lungs, please drop me a few lines.  I'm only 43 and too young to die!

Hello

My Dad who is now 73 was diagnosed with kidney cancer, tumor in  HIS right kidney, and mets and a lot of meds in his lungs last December.   It was the hardest time in our lives.  He started his first cycle of Sutent on December 24, and last week we have our first MRIs results after 2 cycles.  The results were amazing,  most of his lung's mets are gone, his tumor is much less vascularized, and the most important is he is much better, he is trying to get back to normal life and full of hope.  He started yesterday his third cycle, and he will have 4 and if things continue well he will have then his surgery.  All of this to let you know that if my Dad is doing well and he is 73, you can do it, it is a process, but it is possible, surround your self of positive people, and fight with everything you have, it is worth it, you have a lot of options and with God anything is posible.  Cancercompass is my best friend, I live in Chicago but they live in Colombia, so it is even harder not being there all the time.  I was really happy to share our good news with all you last week.  You are not alone, and you will beat this, the most important it that you believe it.  I'm a Kidney Cancer Association Volunteer, it is a great place online too where you can learn a lot too, and you will find there a lot of survivers and caregivers united for the same cause.

Wishing you the best and we will keep you in our prayers.

Hi jtom,

If you are new to the Forum, Welcome!

I haven't seen your story, please fill me in.

I like what you said 'God has blessed you!' God hears our prayers and answers them in His time, we have to be patient and wait sometime, but we need to continue to pray.

We also need a positive attitude and to have hope for the  future and a better life.

What kind of treatment are you on?  And, how is it going?

God has been so good to me, and I just want to do all I can  to inspire others.

Prayers and blessings,

B

Hi Tanjaz,

There is some good advice in all these posts. As Bob states, I wouldn't listen to statistics either. They are coming up with new meds all the time. My mom has just started Sutent 50 mg 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. An oral pill once a day.  You are young and probably will be able to tolerate the meds better than my mom. She's struggling with acid reflux symptoms. Many of the posts show that everyone reacts differently also.  As far as beating this thing, reading everyone's posts is very uplifting.  There are many positive results with Sutent. Hang in there. Don't let anyone or anything put a time limit on you. There's no such thing. :-}

Hello Margaret, So sorry to hear your story, and mine is similar. Hubby (last year) at 51yo was diagnosed with RRC with mets in the lung. Surgery went well but it has since spread to the bone in several places. He started on 50 mg Sutent, went to 37.5, and is now back on 50 mg, hoping to be able to manage the side effects. We have just become grandparents and so desperately want to be able to be around for our grandson. What an unexpected and shocking situation we have found ourselves in. I hope your hubby is doing ok.
