Wow, I finally found something regarding kidney masses...I went to my doctor 2 weeks ago because I found a lump in the upper left portion of my abdomen. I was scheduled for a CT scan with contrast a couple days later. I received a call from my doctor stating that the lump was nothing but they found a 19mm complex solid mass on my right kidney. She felt it was nothing but wanted an MRI with contrast performed...Waited and just found out they saw the same thing. Okay...what does this mean?...She still thinks it's probably nothing and it's a very small mass...Now I have an appt with a Urologist in a few days. I'm confused as to what this could be....I've been told it's not a cyst, so what's left? The waiting to hear is frustrating.. Are most solid masses on the kidney, cancer?

Any information provided will be greatly appreciated.

I previously posted about having kidney surgery (partial nephrectomy) and hysterectomy. Well that was one year ago and I can tell you the most unbelievable thing happened to me. It was decided that my gyn MD would start the surgery to remove any adhesions that might be in the way and then my urologist would do my kidney first and then gyn would take over and do the hyst. Well when they got to my kidney they couldn't find the mass!!!! So they did an open incision for the kidney only and lifted my kidney out of my body and did ultrasound on it while I was on the operating table. Radiologist was called in previous films were brouhght into OR to pinpoint location of mass and it was GONE!!! My urologist has since said he removed a layer of "fatty" material that surrounded my kidney and he thinks it was the "fatty" material showing on all my scans. After taking so long to examine the kidney they almost didn't do the hyst, but my nurse (male nurse) told MDs that if he were the patient (me) and woke up to realize that neither surgery had been performed he'd be upset and since my vitals were stable they proceeded with hyst. vaginally!!!! My uterus was the largest they had ever seen due to fibroids (it had actually gotten even larger since my last scan) and my current MD called my previous OB/GYN in to see it UGH!!! Anyways, after 5 hrs of surgery I spent 1 week in hospital and 10 weeks out of work (wanted me out longer but I didn't have any leave time left with employer). I'm a year post op and grateful for the outcome of the kidney surgery and the hyst was the best thing I ever had done, I've told everyone it was my gift to myself. My uterus was so large it had been pressing on my bladder and I would go to the bathroom just about every 1/2 hr round the clock - making it difficult to travel anywhere. So lots of good news on my end - although I wish I had had to have the kidney surgery "another scar added to the many I already have" I really am grateful and do believe in miracles. I wish the same for everyone else going through something similar.

I am current going through a similar situation. Can I ask what you have since found out and how do things now stand for you?  Thanks.
