hi shitul... skin becoming dark is normal, when my husband went through the first 8 rounds of chemo last year his hands becam dark black, now we r on our 5 round of chemo and his hand r becoming a bit dark,,, we bought a cream called "diabetecream" or smthg like that, it is mentol, he uses it to smooth his hands and make then soft specially when the weather is hot, and it provides a bit of relaxation and prevents crackin of the skin...

well there os nothing u can do to prevent the side effects of the chemo, but u can use creams and stuff to relax urself... tell me, ur patelets count is low?? and ur white blood cells??

my husband hasnt taken a full chemo dose until now, he is just taking 2400 mg of 5fu... bcs his white blood cells beomes low, he has to have 3 till 5 shots of neupogem(i guess i spelled the name right) but his patelets were 75000 (minimum 150 000) and there is nothing to do for patelets!!

iduna, give her strength, pray6 with her, take her out... sometimes i think cancer doesnt kill , the dark thoughta that come with it kills !! i have talked to 12 years survivors of stage 4 colon cancer, but on the other hand some die in 2 or 3 years... i feel sad for everyone who has cancer, and their families... because it is hard to fight the unpredictable... but 2 days ago young girl and her brother died in an car accident and they were healthy !! so death is a must... all we can do is to live now ( im sorry i may be a bit "not" very positive today but if we think like that maybe we will accept everything and enjoy knowing that at any moment we could leave this world !!)

kisses to all

That is very true. We must live while we can, but hope makes us live longer. Thank you. :)

hey all, as you all may know, my husband started his 2nd cycle of chemo on feb 13th, 3 month ago, we had 7 treatments so far, low dose of 5fu because his patelets count r low, campto and avastin... his blood tests r good, he is responding to treatment, his cea dropped from 286 till 95... his liver enzymes and bilirubin r high, but each treatment r getting a little bit by bit lower...today we had a ct scan, i was hoping that the nodules r decreasing in size, but to my surprise ,they r still the same... his cea is deacreasing as well as thye other thing...so why not the nodules???????

we havent talken to the doc yet, but what could be the reason??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

please help!??!

Hi jinane, I am sooo sorry to hear this. Do you have nuepogen? I just got on here so i am only a little up to speed on your husbands history. So he had spots on the liver, how many? Did they do any surgery for it. What chemo drugs did he do the first time and for how long.

My husband is just alittle bit behind yours. I makes me feel good to see someone lasting as long as he is, even though he is still on chemo. I know it must be hard for him and for you to see him sufer like he is.

I will be checking this site often, I would love to talk to you more!!!!!!

Jinane, Did u just do the Ct scan or Ct-pet scan? Ct scan shows size of tumour and not the necrosis or the dead cells in the tumour. That is measured by the metabolic update on the pet scan, so maybe there is a response though the size remains same. I am waiting at the hospital for my Ct-pet scan today ad I write this. Results due on Monday evening. Hope and pray that there is response and my lots of mets in liver decrease. Shitul

My husband's colon cancer progressed to stage 4 in 2007, and he is alive and well today. His original colorectal cancer was diagnosed in 2006 and staged at 2-3, but within the year it showed up in his blood and 3 other places. He took avastan, eloxatin, and cu-10, I believe. He was told that he might be able to survive as long as 2 years. Every 3 months he had a full-body PET to chart the progress. He became very ill, could only whisper, and had a heart attack and a stent placed. But by the end of the year, the cancers had disappeared! He now has a PET every 6 months.

One of the nurses told us about an herbal tea called Flor-Essence. We asked the oncologist if it was OK to drink it. The oncologist told us that it would not hurt him but might not help him for no reliable studies have been done on it. Since we were desperate, my husband drank 2oz. of the tea 3 Xs per day. He liked the taste. I do not know if the tea helped him or not, but he still drinks it 2 Xs a day. We buy the loose leaves at a health food store and brew a week's supply at a time.

Prayer and the support of family and friends helped tremendously. My husband rarely missed church even though we had to help him into a back pew lined with pillows. We slipped in late and left shortly before the end of the service. He wore a surgical mask and latex gloves because his immune system was so low, but he insisted on going to church. I believe his steadfast faith did more than anything to heal him. He is a marvel to all in our church.

He also attended support groups and gained courage and strength through those sessions. He wrote his obituary and a testimonial on his faith in God to be shared if the Lord decided that it was his time to die. Now that he is healed, he is a certified ostomate helping other men with pouches learn to deal with their ostomies. He writes funny (but informative) poems about his ostomy and shares those with others, too.

I tell you this, for that could be your husband's story, too. I strongly believe in miracles, for I have seen one!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful story. My mum is doing really bad at the moment, but we have faith in God and pray the whole time. We believe in miracles that can still happen.

You story is very encouraging. Thank you. God bless you and your familiy.
