d-Limonene which is orange peel oil. Dad started using a few weeks ago. I have tried it too. I really like it and dad hasn't complained about the reflex lately. This site talks about the research on it.

hi heather my husband has tried the aloe vera, he says it helps soothe is stomach. i bought him george's as it is bitter free and no unpleasant taste. good luck and god bless you.

Have you tried a low-fat, non-fat diet? I was diagnosed with stage 1-B cancer in February 2010, had chemo and radiation, and then an Ivor Lewis procedure at Mayo. It's been a struggle controlling acid reflux. In Feb. & March 2011 I was vomiting 3-4 times a day, and if not for the J-Tube night feeding I would have been in serious trouble. I finally took to heart the suggestion that I try a low-fat/non-fat diet that was worked out for patients with gastroparesis.
Literally overnight I went from vomiting 3-4 times a day to once a week, and then only because I ate too much, or too much too fast. Your husband's acid production is the same as it was, but now into a much smaller stomach volume. (If he's had gastroesophageal surgery, that is.) Eating foods high in fat -- such as fatty meats, real ice cream, gravies or cheeses -- results in high volumes of stomach acid being pumped in with no place to go but up. (Extra stomach acid is needed to digest these hard-to-digest foods.) I'm not a doctor, just a patient, and it worked for me. Might be worth a try?
My other suggestion is to keep a daily intake diary -- write down everything he eats or drinks each day, work out the calories (there are good on-line sites to help with this). At the bottom of each page (one page per day), write a 10-word description of how the day went. No acid reflux? Bad reflux? Vomiting? No Vomiting? Good day - no problems? Etc., Etc. Over time, you'll be able to look back and see what he ate on the days he did well, and what he ate on the days that were just horrible. Use that info to guide your food choices going forward. have you tried something traditonal like prilosec? i am on 40 mg ( 2 pills ) a day and my surgeon tells me i need to take this for the rest of my life to keep the acid reflux down. he also advocates an elevated bed. i am almost 2 years post surgery and 2 prilosec is what i take daily and i have very little issue with acid reflux.
