Also avoid crest pro health which after chemo caused  mouth sore(s) and even non-chemo patients had the issue at my dentist's office.  I used toms toothpaste and I think biotene mouthwash for dry mouth as was another side effect for me.  I needed water bottle near me at night, to moisten my mouth/throat and even dry eye drops from chemo, but they helped.

You really need to ask your doctor the tuff questions. I did and it saved my life. I had a malignant liver tumor and a different pancreatic cancer in the tail. My oncologist said "how bout a little chemo?". I asked him if it would work and he said "no". He just didn't want to leave me without any hope. Did mention that I had less then 6 months and was elligable for hospice. My husband took me to MD Anderson. I have had chemo and extensive surgery and living a completely normal life one year and 3 months later. I am considered cured. Yes, there are success stories, I'm one of them. I love my oncologist who gave me no hope but for major repairs like a new engine you would not take your car to a jiffy lube. Our bodies are no different. What price do you put on life?

This news is thrilling!

I know how snobby I sound when I say this, but there are doctor levels. It matters little what doc you use for a cold or flu. It's a life or death decision when you have cancer.

Use MD Anderson or Slone Kettering for referals of docs if nothing else.  I did in 2003, and I'm pancreatic cancer free. We have another story here of the same type.

It DOES matter where docs attended med school too when you have cancer. You want the top of the top. Don't be concerned about hurting anyone's feelings when it comes to your life.

Thanks for sharing your success story. It does encourges others to be active in their treatment and fight this disease with full might. I pray for you and your family and thanks again for sharing your success with us.

My brother was also diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in the fall of 2010 and he is being treaded at MD Anderson.  His tumor is on the pancreas head and he is not a candidate for surgery at this point. However; he is responding well to chemo and radiation. We are hoping that one day he will be a candidate for surgery.

We are very satisfied with the treatment he is receiving at MD Anderson and just praying for his full and speedy recovery.

Regards,

WS

Biotin was the only thing I could use as well. My dentist also added that you should wait an hour after vomiting to brush your teeth because it will damage them. He said just rinse with water...I know...yuk! But you have to care for your teeth. I also started making my own yogurt! Couldnt eat much of anything else. BTW...I have a question regarding family doctors. I live in a small town and my family doctor said that he can run all the tests that MD Anderson does. He said I have a choice of either him or MDA. It is a long trip for me to go to Houston but they saved my life. I had not only the pancreatic carcinoma but also a rare liver cancer and an adrenal tumor. They gutted me like a deer even took out my remaining femal parts. I look healthy though. It was a 9 hour surgery with two surgical teams. They are so skilled that they operated without a blood transfusion! Even my local oncologist told me I only had 6 months to live before I went to MDA. They only saw the liver tumor on their scans but didn't see the other tumors. MDA pointed them out the films my local doctor took! They do sloppy work here but they have a big ego and talk so negativly of MDA. Has anybody had the same problems with small town doctors with huge egos? They won't even take a lump out of my breast here unless I give consent for a blood transfusion. I'm like.. Are you kidding me? Do you use a machete to perform surgery? Really? It is really stressing me out and it feels like blackmail. I need a family doctor for my referrals to MDA. That's how my insurance works. Any suggestions? And how do I go about finding a new doctor? You just mention MDA and they throw their hands in the air.

The pharamceutical companys are trying to hide these (DCA) (GUYABANO) from us because they can't make serious money from it.
