Just diagnosed with prostate cancer. Gleason is 6. PSA is in normal range. Cancer on both sides of prostate. Bone scan and CT scan show no cancer has spread. Generally good health. Already gave a hormone shot at initial meeting with urologist. Said cancer was aggressive. Suggesting both seeds and external radiation. Meet with the onocologist on Friday. Recommend this Message Report Abuse Email a Friend Track this Message [Remove] Subject: Questions Date: 08/07/2006 I think you have had your meeting with the oncologist by now, so an answer to your "questions" is probably too late, at least for now. However, I am wondering who told you the cancer was aggressive in nature. A Gleason of 6 is not a sign of an aggressive cancer. Most all of us would be happy with a Gleason of 6. If you had an 8, 9 or 10 then you would have an aggressive cancer. I'm interested in finding out what the oncologist suggested. I agree that a Gleason score of 6 is not an agressive cancer, so it should not be fast growing. Hormone therapy can always be done as a first line of treatment, and then surgery or radiation can follow. Radiation could be a total cure, hormone therapy merely controls it and impedes the growth.
