Gemcitabine

Hello all.

So my mom is going to get a port in next week and they will start Gemzar for about 6 weeks.  After that they are going to do radiation and 5Fu Chemo treatment for 5 weeks.  Then after that Gemzar again. 

I am starting the "new path"  of chemo with my mom .  The dr's are actually really excited cuz they believe that my mom's case is cureable! They actually said that to her which I was shocked because they never use that word!!

Please pray for the duration of this.. And Know I am praying for you all!!!!

I meant to say my mom is starting gemcitabine but I believe it's the same thing as Gemzar.

Anyway has anyone heard of 5fu???  She'll be starting that the beginning of the new year.

From my research, the Gemzar/FU5 combo treatment is a newer protocol for specific stages of cancer used at NCI's.  I go to Duke Medical Center and I believe this protocol is being used there.  I was not at the level for this protocol so I did not do further research.  Check out the web sources, they are very valuable.  Start with pancan.org and move to the live strong website, searching more links from there.

I have just completed my 1st round of Gemzar and have done very well with the port.  I pray your mother does well.
